The 15th Racquetball World Championships were held in Seoul (South Korea) from August 13 to 21, 2010, with 16 men's national teams and 11 women's national teams; and several players in the Singles and Doubles competition.
Seoul, officially the Seoul Special City, is the capital and largest metropolis of South Korea. With surrounding Incheon metropolis and Gyeonggi province, Seoul forms the heart of the Seoul Capital Area. Seoul is ranked as the fourth largest metropolitan economy in the world and is larger than London and Paris.
South Korea, officially the Republic of Korea (ROK), is a country in East Asia, constituting the southern part of the Korean Peninsula and lying to the east of the Asian mainland. The name Korea is derived from Goguryeo which was one of the great powers in East Asia during its time, ruling most of the Korean Peninsula, Manchuria, parts of the Russian Far East and Inner Mongolia, under Gwanggaeto the Great. South Korea lies in the north temperate zone and has a predominantly mountainous terrain. It comprises an estimated 51.4 million residents distributed over 100,363 km2 (38,750 sq mi). Its capital and largest city is Seoul, with a population of around 10 million.
The incumbent champions in men's and women's singles were Americans Rocky Carson and Rhonda Rajsich, respectively, and they successfully defended their titles in Seoul.
Rocky Carson is an American professional racquetball player. Carson is the current USA Racquetball National Doubles Champion and the reigning Pan Am Games Champion in Men's Singles. Carson’s a former World Champion in Men’s Singles - a title he’s won a record five times. He has been the season ending #1 player on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) twice, including in 2017-18. Carson has also played outdoor racquetball, and in 2008, he became the first man to win Men’s Singles at the World Outdoor Championship, as well as the indoor International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Championship, and US Open.
Rhonda Rajsich is an U.S. racquetball player. She is the current Pan American Champion in Women's Singles, and has been World Champion in Women's Singles twice, as well as US Open champion four times. Rajsich was the #1 player on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour season ending rankings four times – three straight seasons from 2005-06 to 2007-08 and then again in 2010-11. She is of Serbian descent.
In doubles, the Americans successfully defended the men's doubles title, and Mitch Williams was part of the winning team again, although in 2010 he won with Ben Croft while in 2008 Jason Thoerner was his partner.
Ben Croft is an American racquetball player. Croft's a former racquetball World Champion, winning men's doubles in 2010 with Mitch Williams. His personal best ranking on the International Racquetball Tour was 3rd at the end of the 2010-11 season. Croft has been in the top 10 every IRT season since he turned pro in 2007. He often dives to keep the ball in play, earning his nickname "Racquetball's Crash Test Dummy".
In women's doubles, Paola Longoria and Samantha Salas broke a 22-year streak of American victories by defeating the defending champions Jackie Paraiso and Aimee Ruiz and claiming the first women's doubles title for Mexico.
Paola Michelle Longoria López is a Mexican racquetball player. She's a three-time International Racquetball Federation World Champion in Women's Singles, tied with Michelle Gould and Cheryl Gudinas for the most ever World Singles titles by a female. She is also a three-time World Champion in Women's Doubles, and is the only woman to have won both singles and doubles at Worlds. Longoria is also the #1 player on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) tour, and was the first Mexican woman to attain the #1 pro ranking, doing so at the end of the 2008-09 season. She repeated the feat at the end of 2009–2010 season, and has been #1 for the last seven seasons. Longoria's style is characterized by a semi-western grip of the racquet, which is unusual for racquetball; Longoria is the only pro player using this grip style.
Samantha Salas Solís is a Mexican racquetball player. Salas is current Pan American Games Champion in Women's Doubles, winning the title for a second consecutive time in 2015 in Toronto. She was the second Mexican woman to finish in the top 10 rankings on the women's pro tour, doing so at the end of the 2006-07 season. Salas was ranked 4th at the end of the 2015-16 Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) season, which was her seventh season in the top 10.
Jackie (Jacqueline) Paraiso is an American racquetball player. Paraiso was the #1 player on the women's pro racquetball tour at the end of the 1991-92, 1998–99, and 1999-2000 seasons. She is a seven time World Champion in women's doubles, which are more World Championships than any other player.
