Mike Green (born August 22, 1973) is a Canadian retired [1] [2] racquetball player from Burlington, Ontario. Green set the record for Men's Singles Canadian Championships at 11 in 2017, which broke a tie he had with Sherman Greenfeld. He also won 10 Men's Doubles Canadian Championships, and together those 21 Canadian titles are the most for a Canadian man. [3]

Professional career

Green's career high professional ranking was 8th at the end of the 2003-04 International Racquetball Tour (IRT) season. Green's ranking is the second highest ever by a Canadian player behind Samuel Murray and Kane Waselenchuk.

Green has reached the semi-finals of IRT Tier 1 or Grand Slam events seven times, and those all occurred over the four season period from 2000-01 to 2003-04, when he was playing most of the IRT tournaments. Since then he has only played a few tournaments each season and not gotten past the Round of 16. [4]

International career

Green has made 28 appearances on Team Canada beginning in 1996, and that's the most appearances by a Canadian men's player. He's won gold medals thrice: in singles at the 2012 and 1999 Pan American Racquetball Championships and in doubles with Tim Landeryou at the 2010 Pan American Championships. [5] Green was also part of Team Canada that won the overall team title at the 2000 World Championships, which is the only time the USA has not won that title.

In addition, Green earned medals on eight other occasions. Most recently Green and Vincent Gagnon won silver at the 2014 World Championships, [6] which was his second silver at Worlds as he and Landeryou won silver at the 2010 World Championships. Green also got silver at the 2003 Pan American Games [7] in singles and at the 2002 [8] World Championships in doubles with Mike Ceresia.

Green finished with bronze medals from the Pan American Racquetball Championships in doubles in 2006 [9] with Brian Istace and in 2011 with Kris Odegard and in singles in 2007. [10] Green also came home with bronze in doubles from both the 2002 World Championships (with Tom O'Brien) and 2006 World Championships (with Brian Istace). [11]

Green also represented Canada at the 2009 World Games.

Canadian career

Green has been Canadian Men's Singles Champion 11 times. His last title was in 2017, when he defeated Samuel Murray in Brossard, Québec, 12-15, 15-12, 12-10, in the final. [12] Green also won Men's Doubles in 2017, as he partnered with Trevor Webb. They beat Nicolas Bousquet and Tommy Murray in the final, 10-15, 16-14, 13-11. [13] In 2016, Green defeated Tim Landeryou 15-6, 15-8, in the final. [14] His previous titles came in 2002, 2003, [15] 2004, 2006, 2008, [16] 2010, 2011, [17] 2012, [18] and 2013 [19] - and Doubles Champion eight times - in 2000 with Mike Ceresia, 2004 with Tom O'Brien, 2005-2007 [20] with Brian Istace and 2010 and 2011 [21] with Kris Odegard, and 2013 with Coby Iwaasa. [22] Green's 21 combined Canadian titles is second only to Jennifer Saunders's 24. [3]

Green has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University. He sells real estate in Hamilton. [2]

Paola Longoria Mexican racquetball player

Paola Michelle Longoria López is a Mexican racquetball player. She's a three-time International Racquetball Federation World Champion in Women's Singles, tied with Michelle Gould and Cheryl Gudinas for the most ever World Singles titles by a female. She is also a three-time World Champion in Women's Doubles, and is the only woman to have won both singles and doubles at Worlds. Longoria is also the #1 player on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) tour, and was the first Mexican woman to attain the #1 pro ranking, doing so at the end of the 2008-09 season. She repeated the feat at the end of 2009–2010 season, and has been #1 for the last eight seasons. Longoria's style is characterized by a semi-western grip of the racquet, which is unusual for racquetball; Longoria is the only pro player using this grip style.

Jennifer Saunders (racquetball) Canadian racquetball player

Jennifer "Jen" Saunders is a Canadian retired racquetball player from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Saunders is the current Canadian Champion in Women's Singles, winning for the 11th time in Langley, British Columbia, where she also won her 13th Women's Doubles title; this time winning with Danielle Drury. Her 11 Canadian Women's Singles Championships and 24 combined Canadian Women's Singles and Doubles Championships are Canadian women's records. Saunders was the 2009 Manitoba Female Athlete of the Year as voted by the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. Saunders announced her retirement from competition in December 2019, as she accepted the position of Administrator of High Performance and Sport Development with Racquetball Canada. In July 2020, Saunders was named as one of the 2020 inductees into the Manitoba Sport Hall of Fame.

Samantha Salas Mexican racquetball player

Samantha Salas Solís is a Mexican racquetball player. Salas is current Pan American Games Champion in Women's Doubles, winning the title for a third consecutive time in 2019 in Lima. She was the second Mexican woman to finish in the top 10 rankings on the women's pro tour, doing so at the end of the 2006-07 season. Salas was ranked 2nd at the end of the 2018-19 Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) season, which was her ninth season in the top 10.

Kris Odegard Canadian racquetball player

Kris Odegard is a Canadian retired racquetball player from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Odegard won four Canadian Championships – two in singles and two in doubles. He also won several medals in international competition as part of Team Canada highlighted by gold in Men's Singles at the 2006 Pan American Championships.

Vincent Gagnon Canadian racquetball player

Vincent Gagnon is a Canadian retired racquetball player from Montreal, Quebec. Gagnon won five Canadian Championships: four doubles titles and one singles. He also competed for Canada 19 times, winning multiple medals highlighted by gold at the 2007 Pan American Championships in Men’s Doubles with François Viens.

François Viens is a Canadian retired racquetball player from Delson, Quebec. Viens was a doubles specialist during his career usually playing on the right side. He won four Canadian Championships in doubles, three with Vincent Gagnon, with whom he also won the 2007 Pan American Championships and one with Corey Osborne.

Corey Osborne is a Canadian racquetball player from Penetanguishene, Ontario. Osborne is a former Canadian Champion in singles in 2005 and doubles.

Jose Rojas is a professional racquetball player. Rojas's highest ranking is #3 on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT), which he was at the end of the 2011-12 season. At the end of the 2014-15 season, Rojas was #6, which was his sixth time in the IRT top 10 at season's end. Rojas has represented the USA several times in international competition, and been a gold medalist three times.

Angela Grisar is a Chilean retired racquetball player. She was the first South American woman's racquetball player to finish in the top 10 on the women's pro tour, doing so six straight seasons. She won numerous medals for Chile in international competitions, including at four International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Championships and three Pan American Games.

María José Vargas is a Bolivian-born Argentine racquetball player. Vargas has five wins on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT), and has finished in the top 10 six times - four of those were within the top three with her career best coming in 2014-15, when she finished #2. She is also the current South American Racquetball Champion in Women's Singles and Doubles.

Tim Landeryou is a Canadian retired racquetball player. He was a member of the Canadian National Team from 2010 to 2020, winning multiple medals in international competitions.

Frédérique Lambert is a Canadian racquetball player. Lambert has won four Canadian Championships: two in Women's Singles and two in Women's Doubles. She has been a member of the Canadian National Team since 2008, and has won several medals in international competitions, most recently a bronze medal in Women's Doubles at the 2016 World Championships. Lambert was the #2 ranked player at the end of the 2017-18 Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) season.

Daniel de la Rosa is a Mexican racquetball player. De La Rosa is the current World Champion in Men's Doubles. He won his first International Racquetball Tour (IRT) in December 2014, when he won the 2014 New Jersey Open. He joins Alvaro Beltran as the only Mexican players to win an IRT TIER 1 event. De La Rosa was ranked 4th on the IRT at the end of the 2017-18 season, his sixth season in the top 10.

Mike Ceresia

Mike Ceresia is a Canadian retired racquetball player from Sarnia, Ontario. He was a member of five Canadian teams that won gold at the Racquetball World Championships, which is the most gold medals won by a Canadian at the International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Championships. He also won 10 Canadian Championships.

Jansen Allen is an American racquetball player. Allen won gold at the 2015 Pan American Games in Men’s Doubles with Jose Rojas. He was ranked in the top 10 on the International Racquetball Tour for five straight seasons, from 2013-14 to 2017-18. Allen also a 5 Time Junior National Champion, the 2012 Division 1 Collegiate racquetball champion in singles and doubles, and a 5 Time Texas State Champion.

Alejandro Landa is a Mexican racquetball player. Landa is a two-time winner on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT), and has represented Mexico internationally, winning gold in Men’s Singles and Doubles at the 2017 Pan American Championships.

Samuel Murray is a Canadian racquetball player. Murray is the current Canadian Champion in both Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles. He has also been on the podium in international competitions as a member of the Canadian National Team. He's also a top 10 player on the International Racquetball Tour with a career high ranking of #7.

Coby Iwaasa is a Canadian racquetball player. He was a bronze medalist at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.
