The 2011 AMA National Speedway Championship Series was staged over a single round, which was held at Auburn on September 30. [1] Billy Janniro took the title, his third in total, scoring a maximum in the process.

The AMA National Speedway Championship is an annual speedway championship to decide the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) USA national speedway champion.

Event format

Over the course of 20 heats, each rider raced against every other rider once. The top eight scorers then reached the semi-finals, with first and second in those semi-finals reaching the final. The final counted for double points, with the overall positions decided upon the total points scored in the meeting.

Motorcycle speedway motorcycle sport

Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines which use only one gear and have no brakes; racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock.
