The 2013 EAFF East Asian Cup was the 5th edition of this regional competition, the football championship of East Asia. Two preliminary competitions were held during 2012. Mongolia were suspended from the EAFF and could not compete in any EAFF competition until March 2014, whilst Australia accepted an invitation to take part.

The Super Match is a name for a football rivalry between two South Korean football teams from the Seoul Capital Area, FC Seoul and Suwon Samsung Bluewings. The match and the rivalry between the two teams is regarded as the biggest in South Korean K League.

Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma–Suwon Samsung Bluewings football rivalry was called Magyedaejeon or Magye derby. K League stated in its official website that this match is one of classic football rivalries in the league. South Korea participated in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. It was the 18th appearance of the country at the Asian Games, except the first edition in Delhi. As one of the best competitors at the Games, South Korea's best achievement was in the 2002 Busan, with the acquisition of 96 gold, 80 silver and 84 bronze medals. At the latest edition in 2014 Incheon, the country had collected 79 gold, 71 silver, and 84 bronze medals.

The 2019 K League 2 was the seventh season of the K League 2, the second-highest division in the South Korean football league system. Its champions could be promoted to the K League 1 the next season, and second, third and fourth-placed team advanced to the promotion playoffs.

The 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualification was an international men's under-23 football competition which decided the participating teams of the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup.
