Football Club Istiklol is a professional football club based in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. They currently play in the top division of the country. The club is named after the independence of Tajikistan. Istiklol from Tajik to English is translated as Independence.
Football is the most popular sport in Tajikistan, a country that gained independence in 1991. The national association regularly takes part in competitions organised by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation at senior and youth level. However, the country has not yet enjoyed any real success. While funds are limited, costs for travel and accommodation for international matches are prohibitively high. It is therefore extremely difficult for the national teams to gain experience, apart from in official competitions.

The Tajik Super Cup is a one-match football annual competition. The two participating clubs are holders of the Tajik League champions title and the Tajik Cup. If the Tajik League championship and the Tajik Cup are won by the same team, then the other participant is the runner-up of Tajik League. The match is played at the beginning of the season, typically in March.
The 2017 Tajik Supercup was the 8th Tajik Supercup, an annual Tajik football match played between the winners of the previous season's Tajik League and Tajik Cup. The match was contested by 2016 Tajik League and 2016 Tajik Cup champions, Istiklol, and the 2016 Tajik Cup Runners-up, Khosilot Farkhor. It was held at Central Stadium in Hisor a day before the first game of the 2017 Tajik League. Khosilot Farkhor won the match 2–1 with goals in the first half from Khairullo Azizov and Agbley Jones, with Istiklol striker Dmitry Barkov scoring a late consolation goal.
The 2016 Tajik Supercup was the 7th Tajik Supercup, an annual Tajik football match played between the winners of the previous season's Tajik League and Tajik Cup. The match was contested by 2015 Tajik League and 2015 Tajik Cup champions, Istiklol, and the 2015 Tajik League Runners-up, Khujand. It was held at Stadium Metallurg 1st District in Tursunzoda four days before the first game of the 2016 Tajik League. Istiklol won the match 3–2 thanks to an 82nd-minute winner from Oleksandr Kablash, his second of the match. After Istiklol took the lead through Kablash, Khujand equalised through Farkhod Tokhirov from the penalty spot, before Davron Ergashev restored Istiklol's lead shortly after. Dilshodzhon Karimov squared the game up midway through the second half, before Kablash's second gave Istiklol their sixth Supercup title.

The 2018 Tajik Supercup was the 9th Tajik Supercup, an annual Tajik football match played between the winners of the previous season's Tajik League and Tajik Cup. The match was contested by 2017 Tajik League champions Istiklol, and the 2017 Tajik Cup champions Khujand. It was held at the Central Stadium in Hisor on 2 March 2018. Istiklol won the match 3–2 thanks to an extra-time winner from Nozim Babadjanov. Khujand led a 2-1 at halftime thanks to goals from Firdavs Chakalov and Agbley Jones, with Istiklol getting one back on the brink of halftime after Chakalov. I the second half Belarusian striker Mikalay Zyanko equalised for Istiklol sending the game in to extra time. At the beginning of the second-half of extra-time Nozim Babadjanov gave Istiklol the lead and completed their comeback to win their 7th Supercup.
The 2019 Tajik Supercup was the 10th Tajik Supercup, an annual Tajik football match played between the winners of the previous season's Tajik League and Tajik Cup. The match was contested by 2018 League and Cup champions Istiklol, and the league runners-up Khujand. It was held at the Pamir Stadium in Dushanbe on 29 March 2019 with Istiklol winning the match 3–0. Istiklol took the lead through a Ruslan Koryan penalty in the 38th minute, both Koryan got his and Istiklol's second in the 50th minute. Koryan was replaced by Shahrom Samiyev in the 58th minute, with the substitute going on to score the third and final goal of the game in the 90th minute to secure Istiklol their 8th Supercup.
