The 2011 U-20 Copa Libertadores (known as the 2011 Copa Movistar Libertadores Sub-20 for sponsorship reasons) was the first edition of this U-20 club competition. Players born on or after 1 January 1990 were eligible to compete. The tournament was originally going to be hosted in November 2010, however, because of the postponement, players born in 1990 were allowed to play, otherwise only players born after 1 January 1991 would have been eligible. In addition to the two clubs of the host nation, nine clubs qualified from the remaining nine football associations of CONMEBOL and one from the Mexican Football Federation. [6]

Club Alianza Lima, popularly known as Alianza Lima or simply Alianza, is a Peruvian professional sports club based in La Victoria District of Lima, Peru. The club was founded under the name of Sport Alianza on 15 February 1901 by working-class youth in the Chacaritas neighborhood of Lima. It is widely known for having one of the most historical and successful football teams in Peru; they have won a total of twenty-five league titles of the Peruvian Primera División and are currently the oldest team playing in that competition, since the club was founded in 1901.

The 2006 Torneo Descentralizado was the ninetieth season of Peruvian football. A total of 12 teams competed in the tournament, with Sporting Cristal as the defending champion. Alianza Lima won its twenty-second Primera División title after beating Cienciano in the final playoffs. The season began on February 3, 2006 and ended on December 27, 2006.

The 1998 season of the Torneo Descentralizado was the 83rd season of the top category of Peruvian football (soccer). It was played by 12 teams. The national champion was Universitario.

The Peruvian Clásico or the Classic of the Classics of Peruvian Football is the name given to Peru's biggest football derby between Alianza Lima and Universitario. The rivalry between these two clubs started in their first game on 23 September 1928 when the two first faced off in a violent game. Both clubs come from the capital city, Lima.

The 2009 Torneo Descentralizado de Fútbol Profesional was the 93rd season of Association Peruvian football. A total of 16 teams competed in the tournament. The season began on February 14 and concluded on December 13 with the victory of Universitario de Deportes over Alianza Lima in the second leg of the final Play-off, giving Universitario its twenty-fifth Peruvian title.

The South American Zone of 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification saw nine teams competing for 4 or 5 berths in the finals. Brazil automatically qualified for the World Cup as the host nation so were not involved in CONMEBOL qualifying. Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador and Uruguay advanced to the World Cup.

The second stage of the 2013 Copa Libertadores de América was played from February 12 to April 18, 2013. A total of 32 teams competed in the second stage.

The second stage of the 2014 Copa Libertadores de América was played from February 11 to April 10, 2014. A total of 32 teams competed in the second stage.

The elimination phase of the 2014 Copa Sudamericana was played from August 19 to September 24, 2014. A total of 46 teams competed in the elimination phase.

The 2015 Copa Libertadores first stage was played from February 3 to February 12, 2015. A total of 12 teams competed in the first stage to decide six of the 32 places in the second stage of the 2015 Copa Libertadores.

The 2015 Copa Libertadores second stage was played from February 17 to April 22, 2015. A total of 32 teams competed in the second stage to decide the 16 places in the final stages of the 2015 Copa Libertadores.

The 2016 Copa Libertadores second stage was played from 16 February to 21 April 2016. A total of 32 teams competed in the second stage to decide the 16 places in the final stages of the 2016 Copa Libertadores.

The 2019 Copa Libertadores group stage was played from 5 March to 9 May 2019. A total of 32 teams competed in the group stage to decide the 16 places in the final stages of the 2019 Copa Libertadores.

The 2019 Copa Libertadores final stages were played from 23 July to 23 November 2019. A total of 16 teams competed in the final stages deciding the champions of the 2019 Copa Libertadores, with the final played in Lima, Peru at the Estadio Monumental.

The 2020 Copa Libertadores group stage was played from 3 March to 22 October 2020. A total of 32 teams competed in the group stage to decide the 16 places in the final stages of the 2020 Copa Libertadores.
