The 2012 Asian Water Polo Championships for men and women were held from 24 to 27 January 2012 at the Chiba International General Swimming Center near Tokyo, Japan.
The winner of these championships (both men and women) qualified directly for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The second- and third-placed team (both men and women) were eligible to participate in the World Olympic qualification tournament, held 1–8 April 2012 for men in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and 15–22 April for women in Trieste, Italy. [1] However, only the Kazakhstan women's team applied to take part.

The European Aquatics Championships is the continental Aquatics championship for Europe, which is organised by LEN—the governing body for aquatics in Europe. The Championships are currently held every two years ; and since 1999, they have included 4 aquatics disciplines: Swimming, Diving, Synchronised swimming and Open water swimming. Prior to 1999, the championships also included Water polo, which beginning in 1999 LEN split-off into a separate championships. The open water events are not held during the Olympic year.

The competition took place at three locations in central Melbourne: the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, St Kilda Beach, and Rod Laver Arena in a temporary pool christened the Susie O'Neill Pool.
The Auburn Tigers swimming and diving program is Auburn University's representative in the sport of swimming and diving. The Tigers compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 and are members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The program started in 1932 when the pool was in the basement of the gymnasium. The program had to telegraph their timed results to other schools and compare as the pool was too small for competitions.
The United States, represented by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. London is the only city to host the Summer Olympics on three different occasions, having previously done so in 1908 and 1948. Soon, it will be joined by Paris in 2024 and Los Angeles in 2028 in hosting the Olympic Games for a third time. Gregg Troy is an American college and Olympic swimming coach. As of 2018, he is the retired head coach of the Florida Gators swimming and diving teams of the University of Florida. While not the head college coach, he still coaches the high-performance, club swimmers. Troy previously served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Olympic men's swim team in 1996 and 2008, and he was the head coach of the 2012 U.S. Olympic men's swim team that competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
The swimming competitions at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London took place from 28 July to 4 August at the Aquatics Centre. The open-water competition took place from 9 to 10 August in Hyde Park.

The swimming competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo will take place from 25 July to 6 August at the Olympic Aquatics Centre. The women's 10km open-water marathon will be held on August 5, with the men's race happening a day later at the Odaiba Marine Park.
Emma McKeon, is an Australian competitive swimmer. The team also represents, and included representation from, the Crown dependencies, among which were Guernsey's Heather Watson and Carl Hester, and from the ten of the thirteen British Overseas Territories represented by the BOA rather than their own NOC, whose representatives include Turks and Caicos-born sprinter Delano Williams and Anguillan-born long jumper Shara Proctor
