The 2012 French Road Cycling Cup was the 21st edition of the French Road Cycling Cup and was won by Samuel Dumoulin.
Compared to the previous edition, two new events were added to the calendar, namely the Classic Loire Atlantique and the Route Adélie. The defending champion from 2011 was Tony Gallopin.

The mountains classification is a secondary competition in the Tour de France, that started in 1933. It is given to the rider that gains the most points for reaching mountain summits first. The leader of the classification is named the King of the Mountains, and since 1975 wears the polka dot jersey, a white jersey with red polka dots.

The French Road Cycling Cup is a road bicycle racing competition under the Fédération Francaise de Cyclisme each year since 1992. It consists of a number of one-day races in France each year. The World Ranking was launched in 2009, and merged fully with its predecessor the UCI ProTour in 2011. UCI WorldTeams must compete at all events that were part of the tour prior to the 2017 expansion.

Excluding the years 1989 to 1999, the leader of the young rider classification wears a white jersey. The requirements to be eligible for the young rider classification have changed over the years but have always been such that experienced cyclists were not eligible, sometimes by excluding cyclists over a certain age, cyclists who had entered the Tour de France before, or cyclists who had been professional for more than two years. In the most recent years, only cyclists who will remain below 26 in the year the race is held are eligible.

Points are given for high finishes in a stage and for winning intermediate sprints, and these are recorded in a points classification. It is considered a sprinters' competition. The 2012 Giro d'Italia was the 95th edition of Giro d'Italia, one of cycling's Grand Tours. It started in the Danish city of Herning, and ended in Milan. The complete route of the 2012 Giro d'Italia was announced in mid October. For the first time since the 2007 edition no climbing time trial was included in the route. The colour of the jersey for the mountains classification was changed for this year's edition from green to blue. The move came at the behest of sponsor Banca Mediolanum, who renewed its support of the mountains classification for a further four years.

The team classification however remained a contest between the French teams only. Compared to the previous season, the same 16 events were part of the cup. The defending champion from the last season was Nacer Bouhanni.
The Belgian Road Cycling Cup is a road bicycle racing competition established in 2016 and consists of a number of standalone one-day races, mostly in Belgium but since 2022 some are held as well in the Netherlands. In each race, the top 15 riders score points and the rider scoring the most points in total is crowned the Belgian Cycling Cup champion. A separate classification was kept for the best youngster and best team, but these have been cancelled since 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Compared to the previous season, the same 16 events were part of the cup with the exception of Cholet-Pays de Loire, which was not held due to a dispute between the race organiser and the mayor of Cholet. The 2022 French Road Cycling Cup is the 31st edition of the French Road Cycling Cup. There are 17 events, with the Mercan'Tour Classic Alpes-Maritimes making its debut in the competition and joining the usual 16 events from previous years.
