Big Sky Conference

The Big Sky Conference (BSC) is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's Division I with football competing in the Football Championship Subdivision. Member institutions are located in the western United States in the nine states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah and Washington. Four affiliate members each participate in one sport. Two schools from California are football–only participants and two schools from the Northeast participate only in men's golf.

Portland State Vikings

Portland State Vikings is the nickname of the NCAA-affiliated, intercollegiate athletic teams representing Portland State University of Portland, Oregon. The Vikings compete at the NCAA Division I level in basketball, soccer, volleyball, golf, tennis, softball, indoor and outdoor track and field, and cross country. The university has been a member of the Big Sky Conference since 1996. Along with the other Big Sky football programs, Viking football takes-part in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), formerly known as NCAA Division I-AA.

Northern Colorado Bears

The Northern Colorado Bears are the athletic teams representing the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado in intercollegiate athletics. The university sponsors seventeen teams including men and women's basketball, cross country, golf, tennis, and track and field; women's-only soccer, softball, swimming and diving, and volleyball; and men's-only baseball, football, and wrestling. The Bears compete in NCAA Division I, with the football team competing at the FCS level, and most teams are members of the Big Sky Conference. Three Northern Colorado teams have separate affiliations in sports that the Big Sky does not sponsor. The baseball and the women's swimming and diving teams are affiliate members of the Western Athletic Conference, and the wrestling team is a member of the Big 12 Conference.

Montana State Bobcats football

The Montana State Bobcats football program competes in the Big Sky Conference of the NCAA's Division I Football Championship Subdivision for Montana State University. The program began in 1897 and has won three national championships. It is the only college football program in the nation to win national championships on three different levels of competition, NAIA, NCAA Division II, and NCAA Division I-AA. Through the 2018 season, the Bobcats had played in 1,005 games with an all-time record of 500–485–32.

They finished the season 26–12, 11–7 in Big Sky play to finish in fifth place. They defeated Northern Arizona and Weber State to advance to the semifinals of the Big Sky Tournament to Montana. On November 24, 2019, Earnest Collins Jr. was let go after nine seasons, he finished at Northern Colorado with a record of 28–72.

They were led by first-year head coach Troy Taylor and played their home games at Hornet Stadium. They were a member of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 9–4, 7–1 in Big Sky play to finish in a two-way tie for the Big Sky championship with Weber State. They received an at-large bid to the FCS Playoffs where, after a first round bye, they lost to Austin Peay in the second round.
