The Northern Colorado Bears football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the University of Northern Colorado located in Greeley, Colorado. The team competes in the Big Sky Conference at the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level. The university's first football team was fielded in 1893. The team plays its home games at the 8,533 seat Nottingham Field on campus. The Bears announced the hiring of Ed Lamb on December 6, 2022, replacing Ed McCaffrey, who went 6–16 in two seasons.
The 2010–11 Northern Colorado Bears men's basketball team represented Northern Colorado University during the 2010–11 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bears, led by first year head coach B. J. Hill, played their home games at the Butler–Hancock Sports Pavilion and are members of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 21–11, 13–3 in Big Sky play to capture the Big Sky regular season championship. They also won the 2011 Big Sky Conference men's basketball tournament to receive an automatic bid in the 2011 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, their first tournament bid in school history. In the tournament, they lost in the second round to San Diego State. However, they were forced to vacate their season and tournament results due to academic fraud and recruiting violations.

They were invited to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament where they defeated Drake, San Diego, Sam Houston State and UIC to become CIT champions.

On November 24, 2019, Earnest Collins Jr. was let go after nine seasons, he finished at Northern Colorado with a record of 28–72.

The 2020–21 Northern Colorado Bears men's basketball team represented the University of Northern Colorado in the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bears, led by first-year head coach Steve Smiley, played their home games at Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley, Colorado as members of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 11-11, 6-8 in Big Sky Play to finish a tie for 7th place. They defeated Sacramento State in the first round before losing in the quarterfinals to Southern Utah.
The 2022 Northern Colorado Bears football team represented the University of Northern Colorado as a member of the Big Sky Conference during the 2022 NCAA Division I FCS football season. They were led by second-year head coach Ed McCaffrey and played their home games at Nottingham Field. McCaffrey was fired on November 21, 2022, two days after the Bears completed their season with a 3–8 record, repeating the win-loss record of the prior season.
