The 13th edition of the Tanzania Music Awards took place at the Mlimani City Conference Center in Dar es Salaam, on Saturday 14 April 2012. [1] The event was anchored by Vanessa Mdee and Millard Ayo. [2] The nominees were announced on 8 February 2012 with Bongo Flava artist Diamond Platnumz topping the list with seven nominations. [3] [4] Two days after the list was released, four-time nominee Dully Sykes announced his withdrawal from the event. He stated 'it does not contribute to my growth whatsoever, and this contest is full of lies'. [5] After leaving the 2011 Tanzania Music Awards empty-handed, Diamond Platnumz made a return by winning three awards, including Best Male Artist and Best Video. [6] [7]

He began his career with the group S.O.G. in 1996. He decided to go solo in 2002. A.Y. is among the first bongo flava artists to commercialize hip hop. He was member of the musical group known as East Coast Army, but now he is no longer part of the group. He is still releasing songs and albums collaborating mostly with a former East Coast Army artist Mwana Fa.

The 12th edition of the Tanzania Music Awards took place at the Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar es Salaam, on Saturday March 26, 2011. Bongo Flava artist 20 Percent was the big winner of the night with five trophies out of seven nominations. The artist himself was not present and he was represented by his producer Man Water. Winner Lady Jaydee was also absent during the Award ceremony and a fan collected the two awards on her behalf. The artist later stated she had not received an invitation for the event. Singer Diamond Platnumz, who won three awards in the 2010 Tanzania Music Awards was nominated in four categories, although he was among those who left empty-handed.

The 11th edition of the Tanzania Music Awards took place at the Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar es Salaam, on Friday 14 May 2010. The event was anchored by Jokate Mwegelo. Bongo Flava singer Diamond Platnumz was the big winner of the night with three awards out of four nominations, which is a remarkable result for a newcomer.

Emmanuel Mkono, known by his stage name Nahreel, is a Tanzanian Afro beats / Dancehall recording artist and record producer. He is the founder and current CEO of The Industry Studios. Nahreel is a co-founder and member of the music group Navy Kenzo. He has produced albums for and overseen the careers of many rappers and singers, including Vanessa Mdee, Joh Makini, Diamond Platnumz, Nikki wa pili, Navy Kenzo, Izzo Biznes, Gnako, K.O, Roma Shrekeezy., He is credited as a key figure in the popularization of English rap in Tanzania.

Nasibu Abdul Juma Issack, popularly known by his stage name Diamond Platnumz, is a Tanzanian bongo flava recording artist, dancer, philanthropist and a businessman of Ha heritage. He is the founder and CEO of WCB Wasafi Record Label, Wasafi Bet and Wasafi Media. Diamond has gained a massive following in East and Central Africa. He became the first Africa-based artist to reach a combined total of one billion views on YouTube.

Jerry Boniface known by the alias Mesen Selekta, known by his stage name Mesen, is a Tanzanian record producer,Film director, rapper and entrepreneur. He is the founder and current CEO of De Fatality International. Mesen Selekta is the founder and member of the music group Black & White. He has produced albums for and overseen the careers of many rappers, including Joh Makini, Nikki wa pili, Izzo Biznes, Pah One, G nako, Nakaaya, Roma and Country Boi. He is credited as a key figure in the popularization of English rap in Tanzania, which is a Swahili speaking nation.

Nurdin Bilal Ali, better known by his stage name SHETTA, is currently one of the most successful music artists in Tanzania, with a number of his songs reaching peak positions on various music charts in the country and across the African continent. His single "Namjua" dominated several charts at peak position for several weeks in a row in 2016. The song's video had one million views on YouTube as of 2016.

Raymond Shaban Mwakyusa, better known by his stage name Rayvanny, is a Tanzanian musician, songwriter and recording artist who was signed under WCB Wasafi record label until July 2022. He was born and raised in Nzovwe ward of Mbeya city, located in Mbeya Region. He is the most successful bongo flava musician in Tanzania from Mbeya region. He is the founder and CEO of Next Level Music. Rayvanny is best known by his song "Kwetu", which introduced him to the world. Rayvanny was mentioned by MTV Base among "Acts To Look Out For" in 2017.

Hamisi Shaban Taletale, also known as Babu Tale, is a Tanzanian talent manager and a politician presently serving as the Chama Cha Mapinduzi's Member of Parliament for Morogoro South constituency since November 2020. He is the co-founder of the WCB Wasafi music label. Tale represents artists including Diamond Platnumz, Madee, Rayvanny, Mbosso, Rich Mavoko, and Dogo Janja. Through Rayvanny, Tale was the first manager to bring BET Award wins to Tanzania and the first in Africa to win MTV Europe Music Awards for both "Best African Act" and "Worldwide Act" through Diamond Platnumz's major win in 2015. He helped to build names for Bongo Flava now-owned music stars such as Tundaman, Mb Doggy, Keyshia and Z Anto.
