Mwanahawa Abdul Juma (born 4 November 1985 ) better known by her stage name Queen Darleen is a Tanzanian singer signed under WCB Wasafi. [1]

Biography

Early life

Born as on born 4 November 1985 in Kigoma Region as Mwanahawa Abdul Juma, Darleen is a daughter of Abdul Juma Issack (father) [2] and a sister to Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz. [3] [4] [5] Darleen is a Muslim by religion. [6] [7]

Personal life

Darleen was alleged dating fellow Tanzanian singer Ali Kiba, a speculation that she and Ali Kiba publicly denied revealing that they were just friends and business partners. [8] [9]

At the end of 2019, Darleen was married to Isihaka Mtoro as his second wife. [10] [11] [12] [13] Mtoro and Darleen were separated in 2022. [14] [15] [16] [17] [18]

Darleen has two children, a son and daughter with Isihaka. [19] [20] [21] [22] [23] [24]

Music career

Darleen started her music career in the early 2000s as an independent artist featured in Dully Sykes' songs "Historia Ya Kweli" and "Sharifa" also "Mtoto wa Geti Kali" a song by Inspector Haroun. [25]

Darleen released her first debut song as a professional singer "Wajua" featuring Ali Kiba [26] in 2006 whom she addressed not to collaborate with, after a rumor that she slept with him [27] also Ali Kiba's long rivalry with her brother Diamond Platnumz. [28] [29] She released her first song "Maneno Maneno" in 2011 that won her the first award of her career at the 2012 Tanzania Music Awards for the best Ragga/Dancehall song.

WCB Wasafi

Darleen was signed to WCB Wasafi music label, a label owned by her step brother, Diamond Platnumz in 2017. She released her first song as an official WCB Wasafi artist "Kijuso" [30] on February 17, 2017, featuring Rayvanny, followed by couple of hitsongs; "Ntakufilisi", "Touch" and WCB's joint song "Zilipedwa" released on August 25, 2017. She is nicknamed "Wasafi's first lady" as she was the first female artist to be signed under WCB Wasafi. [31] [32] [33]

Bongo Flava is a nickname for Tanzanian music. The genre developed in the 1990s, mainly as a derivative of American hip hop and traditional Tanzanian styles such as taarab and dansi. Lyrics are usually in Swahili or English.

The 13th edition of the Tanzania Music Awards took place at the Mlimani City Conference Center in Dar es Salaam, on Saturday 14 April 2012. The event was anchored by Vanessa Mdee and Millard Ayo. The nominees were announced on 8 February 2012 with Bongo Flava artist Diamond Platnumz topping the list with seven nominations. Two days after the list was released, four-time nominee Dully Sykes announced his withdrawal from the event. He stated 'it does not contribute to my growth whatsoever, and this contest is full of lies'. After leaving the 2011 Tanzania Music Awards empty-handed, Diamond Platnumz made a return by winning three awards, including Best Male Artist and Best Video.

Raymond Shaban, better known by his stage name Rayvanny, is a Tanzanian musician, songwriter and recording artist who was signed under WCB Wasafi record label until July 2022. He was born and raised in Nzovwe ward of Mbeya city, located in Mbeya Region. He is the most successful bongo flava musician in Tanzania from Mbeya region. His songs are mainly in Swahili. He is also the founder and CEO of Next Level Music. Rayvanny is best known by his song "Kwetu", which introduced him to the world. Rayvanny was mentioned by MTV Base among "Acts To Look Out For" in 2017.

Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB) is a Tanzania-based record label founded by musician Diamond Platnumz. WCB's commercial roster includes Diamond Platnumz, Mbosso, Zuchu, Lava Lava, Queen Darleen, and D Voice. The label is headquartered at Mbezi Beach, Dar Es Salaam. Rj the Dj who is also Diamond Platnumz's official DJ, while the official producer of the label is Lizer Classic. In 2017, the WCB Wasafi artists released a joint project titled Zilipendwa, and in 2020, they released their second single titled Quarantine. In 2021, WCB Wasafi signed a publishing and distribution deal with Ziiki and Warner Music Group.

Hamisi Shaban Taletale, also known as Babu Tale, is a Tanzanian talent manager and politician presently serving as the Chama Cha Mapinduzi's Member of Parliament for Morogoro South constituency since November 2020. He is the co-founder of the WCB Wasafi music label.

Zuhura Othman Soud better known by her stage name Zuchu, is a Tanzanian singer and songwriter born on November 22,1993 in Zanzibar. She is currently based in Dar es Salaam and is signed to WCB Wasafi record label.

Mbwana Yusuf Kilungi, better known by his stage name Mbosso Khan is a Tanzanian singer and songwriter born in Kibiti, Pwani Region, he is currently based in Dar es Salaam and signed under WCB Wasafi record label. Mbosso is known for his songs "Nadekezwa" and "Hodari" which won Video of the Year at HiPipo Awards 2019. Mbosso released his debut studio album, Definition of Love, in March 2021.

Juma Mussa Mkambala, known professionally by his stage name Jux, is a Tanzanian artist and songwriter.

Richard Martin Lusinga, known professionally as Rich Mavoko, is a Tanzanian singer and songwriter. He was initially signed to 'King Kaka Records' in 2016, a record label founded by Kenyan rapper King Kaka, and later to WCB Wasafi. Some of his most widely known songs include 'Kokoro' featuring Diamond Platnumz, 'Rudi' featuring Patoranking, 'Show Me' featuring Harmonize, and 'Bad Boy' featuring A.Y. He has produced albums for and overseen the careers of Diamond Platnumz, Rayvanny, Bill Nass and Vanessa Mdee.
