The 2012 West Coast Conference men's basketball tournament was held February 29 though March 5 at the Orleans Arena in the Las Vegas-area community of Paradise, Nevada.
With the addition of BYU to the conference, a new format was introduced for the 2012 tournament. The tournament began on Wednesday instead of Friday, and a first round 8 vs. 9 seed game was added. The 8/9 game was streamed live on wccsports.com on Wednesday, 29 February. The second round took place on Thursday, 1 March with #5 San Francisco playing the winner of the 8/9 game and #6 San Diego playing #7 Pepperdine. BYUtv Sports broadcast the second round of the tournament. [1] The tournament quarterfinals were held on Friday, 2 March, and were broadcast on ESPNU. They featured #3 BYU against the 6/7 game winner and #4 Loyola Marymount against the 5/8/9 winner. The conference semifinals were held on Saturday, 3 March, and were broadcast on ESPN2. #1 Saint Mary's played the 4/5/8/9 winner and #2 Gonzaga played the 3/6/7 winner. The championship game was played on Monday, 5 March 2012 and was broadcast on television by ESPN and on national radio by Dial Global Sports, formerly Westwood One.

The West Coast Conference men's basketball tournament is the annual concluding tournament for the NCAA college basketball in the West Coast Conference (WCC). The winner of the tournament each year is guaranteed a place in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament for that season. Through 2008, the tournament was played on a rotating basis at the home courts of member teams. The 2009 edition was the first played at a neutral site, namely Orleans Arena in Paradise, Nevada, just outside Las Vegas. The semifinals are broadcast nationally on ESPN2 and the championship is broadcast nationally on ESPN.

Haws was a standout high school basketball player, becoming the all-time leading scorer at his school, being twice named Utah's Mr. Basketball, and winning Utah's Gatorade Player of the Year. At Brigham Young University (BYU), Haws was named the 2014 West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year.

The Cougars, in their first season in the West Coast Conference, played their home games at the Marriott Center. They finished the season 26–9, 12–4 in WCC play to finish in third place. They lost in the semifinals of the West Coast Basketball tournament to Gonzaga. They received an at-large bid to the 2012 NCAA tournament where they defeated Iona in the First Four round before falling in the Round of 64 to Marquette.

They finished the season 12–18, 4–12 in WCC play to finish in a tie for seventh place. They lost in the second round of the WCC tournament to San Diego.

They finished the season 28–7, 14–2 in WCC play to finish in second place. They advanced to the championship game of the WCC tournament where they lost to Gonzaga. They received an at-large bid to the 2013 NCAA tournament where they defeated Middle Tennessee in the first four-round before falling in the second round to Memphis.

The Bulldogs, members of the West Coast Conference, are led by head coach Kelly Graves, in his 13th season at the school. Gordon Eakin entered the year as head coach of the Cougars for a 13th consecutive season. 2015 was the second season for the Cougars as members of the WCC in softball. The Cougars entered 2015 having won their last 6 conference championships and as the favorites in the WCC. After sweeping a double header from Santa Clara on May 1, BYU won the 2015 WCC regular season title and became the first team to clinch a spot in the 2015 NCAA Division I softball tournament. The berth would be BYU's eleventh consecutive berth in the NCAA tournament.
