The FIBA Basketball World Cup, also known as the FIBA World Cup of Basketball or simply the FIBA World Cup, between 1950 and 2010 known as the FIBA World Championship, is an international basketball competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the sport's global governing body. It is considered the flagship event of FIBA.
The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup is a world basketball tournament for women's national teams held quadrennially. Its inaugural game was in 1953 with the four-year cycle established in 1967. The next FIBA Women's World Cup will be held in 2022.

The preliminary matches and the women's quarterfinal matches were played in the new Basketball Arena in Olympic Park which seated up to 12,000 spectators. The men's knockout games and the women's games from semifinals onward were played in the North Greenwich Arena.

The 2015 European Women Basketball Championship, commonly called EuroBasket Women 2015 was the 35th edition of the continental tournament in women's basketball, sanctioned by the FIBA Europe. The tournament was co-held in Hungary, that hosted the championship for the fifth time after 1950, 1964, 1983 and 1997 and Romania that hosted it for the second time after 1966, from 11–28 June 2015. This event was host by more that one country for the first time.
Good Angels Košice, since 2018 playing as Young Angels Košice is a women's basketball team based in Košice that plays in Slovakia's domestic league and FIBA Europe’s EuroLeague Women. The team bears the name of a non-profit charitable organization Dobrý anjel.

Basketball at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was held from 6 to 21 August 2016. The preliminary and knockout matches for men were played inside the Carioca Arena 1 in Olympic Park which seats up to 16,000 spectators, and the matches for women were played in Youth Arena. This marked the first time that the men's and women's Olympic tournaments were played in multiple/separate venues. Hosting country, Brazil, failed to make it to the quarterfinals of both the men's and women's division after being eliminated from the group stage. Three countries in both categories took all of the medals: United States, Serbia and Spain.

The 1988–89 FIBA Women's European Champions Cup was the 31st edition of FIBA Europe's competition for national champions women's basketball clubs, running from September 1988 to 22 March 1989. The final featured clash between earlier 1987-88 season reigning champion Primigi Vicenza from Viceza (Italy) and third place Jedinstvo Aida from Tuzla. Jedinstvo Aida won a final game played in Florence for the first time in club's history, to become the second YU club to win the competition. Dynamo Novosibirsk and Astarac Mirande came third and fourth respectively.
