Yanina Wickmayer is a Belgian professional tennis player. She reached the semifinals at the 2009 US Open, and a career-high WTA ranking of world No. 12, on 19 April 2010. In doubles, she achieved a career-high of world No. 71 on 15 February 2010. She was awarded "Most Improved Player" by the WTA in 2009. In June 2011, Time magazine named her one of the "30 Legends of Women's Tennis: Past, Present and Future".

It took place at the ASB Tennis Centre in Auckland, New Zealand, from 31 December 2012 to 6 January 2013.

The 2011 Petra Kvitová tennis season officially began at the 2011 Brisbane International, the first of two simultaneous events which opened the official 2011 season.

Agnieszka Radwańska defeated Venus Williams in the final, 6–4, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2014 Canadian Open.

Serena Williams defeated Ana Ivanovic in the final, 6–4, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2014 Cincinnati Masters.

Belinda Bencic won the women's singles tennis title at the 2015 Canadian Open after Simona Halep retired in the final, with scoreline at 7–6(7–5), 6–7(4–7), 3–0. Bencic defeated six major finalists in succession en route to her first WTA Tour title. At 18 years and 23 weeks of age, Bencic became the youngest woman to win the tournament, surpassing Ana Ivanovic's record from 2006.

Petra Kvitová was the defending champion, but withdrew before her first match due to a gastrointestinal illness.
