The Keiyo are an ethnic group that is part the larger Kalenjin ethnic group of Nilotic origin. Currently they live near Eldoret, Kenya in the highlands of the former Keiyo District now part of the larger Elgeyo Marakwet County. The Elgeyo originally settled at the foot hills of elgeyo escapement. The area between kerio river to the east and escapment to the west. Due to drought and famine at the valley, the keiyos started to climb the escapment and started to settle on the highland east of uasin gishu plateau. When the british came, the keiyos where pushed to settle in cluster which was called reserves. The Keiyo subsist mainly on grain, milk, blood and meat provided by their cattle, sheep and goats.

Embobut is one of the administrative wards for the Marakwet East Constituency in Elgeyo-Marakwet County, Kenya. Elgeyo-Marakwet County is one of Kenya's 47 counties. Elgeyo Marakwet County is located in the former Rift Valley Province. Its capital and largest town is Iten. It borders the counties of West Pokot to the north, Baringo County to the east, southeast and south, Uasin Gishu to the southwest and west, and Trans Nzoia to the northwest.
The list shows flags for the forty-seven counties of Kenya. Some counties adopted the flag of the defunct municipal or district governments. Other flags adopted in the year after the first county governments were elected which was between 4 March 2013 to the same date on 2014. As of 17 December 2014, not all county assemblies have passed the design of the county flags. It is expected that all counties will adopt their own flags soon.
The Rimoi National Reserve is an animal conservation reserve that is located in the Elgeyo Marakwet County in Kenya. It is a relatively small reserve, covering 66 km2, and is protected by the Kenya Wildlife Service. It lies adjacent to Lake Kamnarock which has recently dried up and is part of a conservation area that is five larger than its size.

Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen is a Kenyan lawyer and Senator for Elgeyo-Marakwet County. He was elected Senator for Elgeyo-Marakwet County in 2013 on a URP ticket, winning against the late Nicholas Biwott among other veteran politicians. He was easily re-elected in 2017 on a Jubilee ticket, beating former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo.
Alex Tolgos is a Kenyan engineer and politician who currently serves as the Governor of Elgeyo Marakwet County. He was elected the first Governor of the county on March 4, 2013 and was again re-elected on August 8, 2017 to serve for a second and final term as Governor.
