The men's and women's ice hockey teams are members of Hockey East, and the football team is an associate member of the Coastal Athletic Association.

He served as head coach of the Maine Black Bears from 2016 to 2018, leading them to a record of 20–15 in three season. His 2018 Maine Black Bears football team won the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division I Football Championship playoffs.
