The Mediterranean Games is a multi-sport event organised by the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (CIJM). It is held every four years among athletes from countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea in Africa, Asia and Europe. The first Mediterranean Games were held in 1951 in Alexandria, Egypt, while the most recent games were held in 2022 in Oran, Algeria.
The 1979 Mediterranean Games, officially known as the VIII Mediterranean Games, and commonly known as Split 1979, were the 8th Mediterranean Games. The Games were held in Split, Yugoslavia, from 15 to 29 September 1979, where 2,408 athletes from 14 countries participated. There were a total of 192 medal events from 26 different sports.
The X Mediterranean Games, commonly known as the 1987 Mediterranean Games, were the 10th Mediterranean Games. The Games were held in Latakia, Syria, from 11 to 25 September 1987, where 1,996 athletes from 18 countries participated. The Games featured a total of 162 medal events from 19 different sports.
The XI Mediterranean Games, commonly known as the 1991 Mediterranean Games, were the 11th Mediterranean Games. The Games were held in Athens, Greece, from 28 June to 12 July 1991, where 2,762 athletes from 18 countries participated. There were a total of 214 medal events from 24 different sports.
The XIV Mediterranean Games, commonly known as the 2001 Mediterranean Games, were the 14th Mediterranean Games held in Tunis, Tunisia, from 2–15 September 2001, where 2,991 athletes from 23 countries participated. There were a total of 230 medal events from 23 different sports.
Esra Gümüş Kirici is a former Turkish volleyball player. She is 181 cm and plays as an outside hitter. She is a former team captain of the Turkey women's national volleyball team. She started her career with VakıfBank Istanbul in 1995 to 2000. Then she played for Yeşilyurt between 2000 and 2004. She transferred to Eczacıbaşı VitrA in 2004. She played for Sariyer Belediyesi before she quit volleyball.
At the 2009 Mediterranean Games, the athletics events were held in Pescara, Italy from 30 June to 3 July.
Basketball at the Mediterranean Games has been played consistently since 1951 for men, and 1987 for women. The Yugoslavia national team was the most successful men's team, while the Croatia women's national team being the most successful in the women's competition. Since 2018, the Mediterranean Games has exclusively featured 3x3 basketball.
Melek Hu, born Hou Meiling 27 January 1989, Shenyang) is a Chinese-born Turkish table tennis player. She has played for Fenerbahçe TT since 2007 and also played for An Gang in China. She has won European championships in the mixed (2010), double (2015) and single (2016) events.
Italy has competed at every celebration of the Mediterranean Games since the 1951 Mediterranean Games. As of 2013, the Italian athletes have won a total of 2147 medals as the games record.
The 2013 Mediterranean Games, officially known as the XVII Mediterranean Games and commonly known as Mersin 2013, was an international multi-sport event held from 20 to 30 June 2013 in Mersin, Turkey. Mersin was announced as the host city at the General Assembly of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (CIJM) on 23 February 2011. Mersin is the second city in Turkey after İzmir to host the Mediterranean Games. All 24 member National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the ICMG participated in the Games. The official programme for the Games is featuring events in 27 different sports.
The athletics competitions at the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Mersin took place between 26 June and 29 June at the Nevin Yanıt Athletics Complex while half marathons were held at the Adnan Menderes Boulevard.
The karate competitions at the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Mersin took place between 28 June and 29 June at the Edip Buran Sport Hall.
The Edip Buran Arena, formerly Yenişehir Belediyesi Sports Hall, is a multi-sport indoor arena at Yenişehir district of Mersin, Turkey. Built in 1971, it is owned by the Youth Services and Sports Directoriate of Mersin. The sports hall has a seating capacity of 1,750. It was renovated for the 2013 Mediterranean Games, and the new sports hall went on January 20, 2013, in service.
The Mersin District 7 Sports Hall is a multi-sport indoor arena located at Toroslar district of Mersin Province, Turkey. Owned by the Mersin National Education Directoriate, the sports hall was leased free of charge to the Mersin Youth Services and Sports Directoriate for a time span of 49 years in 2005. The venue is suitable for use of basketball, boxing, martial arts, table tennis, volleyball and wrestling events, and has a seating capacity of 325.
At the 1991 Mediterranean Games, the athletics events were held at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece. A total of 38 events were contested, of which 23 by male and 15 by female athletes. An exhibition heptathlon also took place, with Algeria's Yasmina Azzizi being the only athlete to compete. Several hundred athletes from fourteen Mediterranean nations took part in the competition.
At the 1993 Mediterranean Games, the athletics events were held in Narbonne, Languedoc-Roussillon, France from 17–24 June 1993. A total of 36 events were contested, of which 20 by male and 16 by female athletes.
Ahmet Li is a Chinese-born Turkish table tennis player. He is a member of Beşiktaş J.K. In April 2016, Li climbed up 26 steps to the 40th place in the world ranking list. As of August 2016, he is ranked the forty-fourth player in the world.
Albania has competed at every celebration of the Mediterranean Games since the 1987 Mediterranean Games. As of 2022, Albanian athletes have won a total of 49 medals. The country's ranking in the history of the Games is the 17th place.
Turkey participates in the 2022 Mediterranean Games held in Oran, Algeria from 25 June to 5 July 2022. 321 athletes from Turkey were registered to compete in 24 sports at the Games.
