The Patriot League is a collegiate athletic conference comprising private institutions of higher education and two United States service academies based in the Northeastern United States. Outside the Ivy League, it is among the most selective group of higher education institutions in NCAA Division I and has a very high student-athlete graduation rate for both the NCAA graduation success rate and the federal graduation rate.

The MAAC Men's Basketball Tournament is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The tournament has been held every year since 1982, the MAAC's first season. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner, declared conference champion, receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA men's basketball tournament. The MAAC did not receive its automatic bid from the NCAA until 1984.

The Loyola Greyhounds men's soccer team represents Loyola University Maryland in NCAA Division I soccer. It became a member of the Patriot League on July 1, 2013. Previously it competed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) from 1989 to 2013. To avoid ambiguity, the team is often referenced as Loyola Maryland or Loyola (MD), as there are two other institutions named Loyola that compete at the Division I level.
Niall Lepper is a Scottish former footballer who competed for the Under 18 Scottish national team before playing NCAA Division I soccer, first for a year at Mount Saint Mary's (1999) before transferring for his final three seasons at Loyola College in Maryland (2000–2002). Following the conclusion of his collegiate career, Lepper was drafted in the first round and signed by the Baltimore Blast of the NISL, but quickly withdrew from the indoor game and returned to Loyola to pursue his MBA and serve as the Greyhounds' assistant coach for the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Arguably considered to be the best senior central defender in college following the 2002 season, Lepper was mentioned as a possible first or second round draft pick of several MLS teams but due to strict foreign-born player rules that were then in effect, was never selected.
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Year is a basketball award given to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1981–82 season. Four players have won the award multiple times: Steve Burtt, Luis Flores and Justin Robinson each won twice, while Lionel Simmons won three times. Simmons, along with winning his third MAAC Player of the Year award, was also the consensus National Player of the Year in 1990.
The Northeast Conference (NEC) Men's Basketball Player of the Year is an annual college basketball award given to the Northeast Conference's most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1982–83 season, when the league was known as the ECAC Metro Conference.

The teams include men and women's basketball, cross country, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, swimming & diving, and tennis. Men's sports also include golf, while women's sports also include track and field and volleyball. The Greyhounds compete in the NCAA Division I and joined the Patriot League for all sports on July 1, 2013.
The 2012 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship was the 42nd annual single-elimination tournament to determine the national championship for National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's college lacrosse. Sixteen teams were selected to compete in the tournament based upon their performance during the regular season, and for some, by means of a conference tournament automatic qualifier.
The 2012–13 Loyola Greyhounds men's basketball team represented Loyola University Maryland during the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Greyhounds, led by ninth year head coach Jimmy Patsos, played their home games at Reitz Arena and were members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They finished the season 23–12, 12–6 in MAAC play to finish in a tie for second place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the MAAC Tournament to Manhattan. They were invited to the 2013 CIT where they defeated Boston University and Kent State to advance to the quarterfinals where they lost ton East Carolina.

The 2013 Missouri Valley Conference men's soccer season was the 23rd season of men's varsity soccer in the conference. The defending regular and postseason champions, Creighton, left the conference to join the new Big East Conference.

The 2016 MAAC Men's Soccer Tournament was the 24th edition of the MAAC Men's Soccer Tournament. The tournament decided the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion and guaranteed representative into the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship.
The 2019 Patriot League Women's Soccer Tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the Patriot League held from November 5 through November 10, 2019. The quarterfinals of the tournament will be held at campus sites, while the semifinals and final took place at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility in Annapolis, Maryland. The six-team single-elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The defending champions were the Boston University Terriers, however they were unable to defend their crown, after failing to qualify for the tournament by finishing ninth in regular season play. The tournament was won by Navy, who were the #1 seed and defeated Army 2–1 in the final. The conference championship was the fourth for the Navy women's soccer program, all of which have come under coach Carom Babarra.
