The 2013 Welsh Open (officially the 2013 BetVictor Welsh Open) was a professional ranking snooker tournament that took place between 11 and 17 February 2013 at the Newport Centre in Newport, Wales. It was the seventh ranking event of the 2012/2013 season, [1] and the first time that BetVictor sponsored the event. [2]

At the tournament Pankaj Advani became the first Indian player to reach the quarter-final of a ranking event. [3]

Ding Junhui was the defending champion, [4] [5] but he lost in the semi-finals 5–6 against Stuart Bingham.

Stephen Maguire won his fifth ranking title by defeating Bingham 9–8 in the final. [6] [7]

Prize fund

Prize money for the event this year was increased from £201,500 to £250,000, with the winner to receive £50,000 instead of £30,000. [8] The breakdown of prize money for this year is shown below: [9]

Pankaj Arjan Advani is an Indian billiards and professional snooker player. He is a 27-time International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) world champion. He has won 18 billiards world titles, the IBSF World Billiards Championship on 17 occasions and the World Team Billiards Championship once. In snooker, he won the IBSF World Snooker Championship three times, IBSF World six-red championship twice and the IBSF World Team Cup and IBSF World Team Championship one time each. He has the record number of IBSF world championships. He became a snooker professional in 2012/2013.

The Welsh Open is a professional ranking snooker tournament that has been held annually since 1992. It replaced the Welsh Professional Championship, which ran annually from 1980 to 1991 and was open only to Welsh players. The Welsh Open is now the longest running ranking event after the World Championship and the UK Championship. Since the 2016–17 season, it has been one of four tournaments in the Home Nations Series, alongside the Northern Ireland Open, the Scottish Open, and the English Open. Since 2017, the winner of the event has received the Ray Reardon Trophy, named after the Welsh six-time world champion. Reardon himself presented the newly named trophy to 2017 winner Stuart Bingham.
