The 2014 Bayern Rundfahrt was the 35th edition of the Bayern Rundfahrt, an annual cycling road race. It was held between 28 May and 1 June, consisting of five stages, the fourth being an individual time trial. The stage race was part of the 2014 UCI Europe Tour, and was rated as a 2.HC event.

Contents

The race was won for the second time – having won the race in 2011 – by Geraint Thomas of Team Sky, who claimed the leader's jersey by winning the time trial stage. Mathias Frank (IAM Cycling) was second and Thomas' teammate Vasil Kiryienka completed the podium.

Reit im Winkl is a small village located on the German/Austrian border in the southeastern part of Bavaria, Germany. Part of the Traunstein district, it was previously an immigration and customs control point. It is situated south of Chiemsee and southwest of Ruhpolding – home of the Biathlon World Cup – in the Bavarian Alps and facing towards Tyrol. The village lies next to the Austrian states Tyrol and Salzburg. Kössen in Tyrol is the next village on the river Lofer, before it joins the confluence of the river Tiroler Achen. Jens Voigt is a German former professional road bicycle racer and, upon retirement, became a cycling sports broadcast commentator. During his cycling career, Voigt raced for several teams, the last one being UCI ProTeam Trek Factory Racing. Voigt wore the yellow jersey of the Tour de France twice, though he was never a contender for the overall title owing to the mountainous nature of the stages of the race being better suited to climbing specialists. His career achievements include winning the Critérium International a record-tying 5 times and a number of one-week stage races, as well as two Tour de France stage victories. In September 2014, he set a new hour record.

Stefan Schumacher is a German former professional road racing cyclist. Schumacher won the bronze medal in the road race at the 2007 UCI Road World Championships, two stages in the 2006 Giro d'Italia and two stages in the 2008 Tour de France. After positive results on doping products in the 2008 Tour de France and the 2008 Summer Olympics, he received a suspension for two years, later reduced by some months. After his suspension, he came back as a professional cyclist before retiring in 2017.

Geraint Howell Thomas, is a Welsh professional racing cyclist who rides for UCI WorldTeam Ineos Grenadiers, Wales and Great Britain. He is one of the few riders in the modern era to achieve significant elite success as both a track and road rider, with notable victories in the velodrome, in one-day racing and in stage racing. On the track, he has won three World Championships, and two Olympic gold medals, while on the road he won the 2018 Tour de France becoming the first Welshman and third British rider to win it.

Stef Clement is a Dutch former professional cyclist, who competed between 2003 and 2018 for the Van Hemert Groep CT, Rabobank Continental Team, Bouygues Télécom, IAM Cycling and LottoNL–Jumbo squads. He specialized in the time trial discipline, winning the Dutch National Time Trial Championships on four occasions. He also won the bronze medal in the 2007 World Championships time trial.

Team Vorarlberg is a cycling team based in Austria. The team was founded in 1999 by the twin brothers Thomas Kofler and Johannes Kofler and previously known as Team Volksbank. In 2009, the Austrian federal state of Vorarlberg replaced Volksbank as title sponsor. In 2006 it became the first ever Austrian professional cycling team and was registered as a UCI Professional Continental team until June 2010, when their UCI license was suspended due to financial insecurity. The 2011 Bayern Rundfahrt was the 32nd edition of the Bayern Rundfahrt, an annual cycling road race. Departing from Pfarrkirchen on 25 May, it concluded in Moosburg on 29 May. The 798.2 km long stage race was part of the 2010–11 UCI Europe Tour, and was rated as a 2.HC event. Geraint Thomas of Team Sky won the general classification, the first Briton to win the competition.

The race included six stages, with a team time trial at the beginning and an individual time trial at the end with four hilly or mountainous stages in between. The queen stage was the fifth stage, which finished on the climb above Champex.

The 2013 IAM Cycling season was the first season of the IAM Cycling team, which was founded in 2012. The team competed on the UCI Professional Continental level. They began the season on 27 January at the Grand Prix d'Ouverture La Marseillaise, and finished in October at the 2013 Giro di Lombardia. The team participated in UCI Continental Circuits and UCI World Tour events when given a wildcard invitation.

The 2015 Tour of Belgium was the 85th edition of the Tour of Belgium cycling stage race. It took place from 27 to 31 May 2015 in Belgium, and was part of the 2015 UCI Europe Tour. It was won by home rider Greg Van Avermaet, riding for the BMC Racing Team.

The 2015 Bayern Rundfahrt was the 36th edition of the Bayern Rundfahrt, an annual cycling road race. It was held between 13 and 17 May, starting in Regensburg and ending in Nürnberg. The race consisted of five stages, the fourth being an individual time trial.

The 2015 Tour of Austria is the 67th edition of the Tour of Austria cycling stage race. It started in Wien on 4 July with a team time trial prologue, and concluded in Bregenz on 12 July. This was the first time in several years that the race consisted of 8 stages plus a prologue. It was part of the 2015 UCI Europe Tour, and was rated as a 2.HC event.
