The 2014 European Tour was the 43rd season of the European Tour, the main professional golf tour in Europe since its inaugural season in 1972.
New tournaments for the 2014 season were the Made in Denmark, D+D Real Czech Masters tournaments and the EurAsia Cup team event between the European Tour and the Asian Tour. [1] Lost from the schedule were the Avantha Masters [2] and the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, with the venue hosting the 2014 Ryder Cup. In addition, the Ballantine's Championship moved from South Korea to Singapore and was renamed as The Championship at Laguna National. [3] A third new tournament, the NH Collection Open, a dual-ranking event with the second-tier Challenge Tour, was later added to the schedule. [4]

The Official World Golf Ranking is a system for rating the performance level of professional golfers. It was started in 1986. The rankings are based on a player's position in individual tournaments over a "rolling" two-year period. New rankings are calculated each week. During 2018, nearly 400 tournaments on 20 tours were covered by the ranking system. All players competing in these tournaments are included in the rankings. In 2022, 23 tours factored into the world rankings. As well as being of general interest, the rankings have an additional importance, in that they are used as one of the qualifying criteria for entry into a number of leading tournaments.
Rory Daniel McIlroy is a Northern Irish professional golfer who is a member of both the European Tour and the PGA Tour. He is a former world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking, and has spent over 100 weeks in that position during his career. He is a four-time major champion, winning the 2011 U.S. Open, 2012 PGA Championship, 2014 Open Championship and 2014 PGA Championship. Along with Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, he is one of three players to win four majors by the age of 25.

Brooks Koepka is an American professional golfer who plays in the LIV Golf League. He formerly played on the PGA Tour. In October 2018, Koepka became world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking and remained for 47 weeks after winning the 2018 CJ Cup. He won the U.S. Open in 2017 and 2018, and the PGA Championship in 2018 and 2019, becoming the first golfer in history to hold back-to-back titles in two majors simultaneously. In 2023 Koepka won the PGA Championship for the third time, bringing his total to five majors won within six years. He started his career on the European Challenge Tour and eventually the European Tour. Koepka played college golf at Florida State University.

The 2021 WGC-Workday Championship was a golf tournament that was played February 25–28 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida. It was the 22nd and final time the WGC Championship has been played and the first of the World Golf Championships events to be staged in 2021. The event was originally scheduled to take place in Mexico, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was moved to Florida in January 2021. On February 16, it was announced Workday, Inc. would become the new title sponsor.
