The 2016 Merlion Cup has been the 10th edition of the Merlion Cup, an invitational club basketball tournament organized by the Basketball Association of Singapore. The 2016 edition marked the return of the tournament which was held two decades before in 1996. [1]

Contents

The tournament took place at the OCBC Arena from 21–25 September [2] and featured six teams from six countries. [3]

The Merlion Cup was an invitational football tournament that was held in Singapore annually from 1982–1986, in 1992, 2009 and 2019. Participants included full national sides, Olympic sides, Invitational XI's and club teams. After the 1986 tournament, four Canadian players were suspended after a match-fixing scandal.

Jimmer Fredette American basketball player

James Taft "Jimmer" Fredette is an American professional basketball player for the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association. Fredette was the 2011 National Player of the Year in college basketball after ranking as the leading scorer in all of NCAA Division I during his senior season for the BYU Cougars. He was subsequently selected with the tenth overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft, but only played limited minutes across four teams over five NBA seasons. He spent the majority of the 2015–16 season in the NBA Development League, during which he won the All-Star Game MVP.

Bob Donewald Jr. is an American basketball coach who is currently an assistant coach for the Texas Longhorns. He was an NBA assistant with the New Orleans Hornets and Cleveland Cavaliers from 2001 to 2004, and an ABA head coach from 2004-2005. 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup was the 18th tournament of the FIBA Basketball World Cup for men's national basketball teams. The tournament was hosted in China and was rescheduled from 2018 to 2019, becoming the first since 1967 that did not occur in the same year as the FIFA World Cup. The tournament expanded from 24 to 32 teams.

Satnam Singh Indian basketball player

Satnam Singh Bhamara is an Indian professional wrestler and former basketball player. He is currently signed to All Elite Wrestling. He became the first Indian and Sikh player to be drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA) when the Dallas Mavericks selected him with the 52nd overall pick of the 2015 NBA draft. Mighty Sports

Mighty Sports is a basketball team based in the Philippines playing in various domestic leagues and tournaments in the country such as the Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League (PCBL) and the Republica Cup. The team won four championships in the Republica Cup in 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2018.

The 2017 Merlion Cup was the 11th edition of the Merlion Cup, an invitational club basketball tournament organized by the Basketball Association of Singapore.

Guo Haowen is a Chinese professional basketball player for the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). He entered his name for the 2021 NBA draft, but withdrew and returned to the CBA.
