The 2016 Merlion Cup has been the 10th edition of the Merlion Cup, an invitational club basketball tournament organized by the Basketball Association of Singapore. The 2016 edition marked the return of the tournament which was held two decades before in 1996. [1]
The tournament took place at the OCBC Arena from 21–25 September [2] and featured six teams from six countries. [3]

Yao Ming is a Chinese basketball executive and former professional player. He played for the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) and the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Yao was selected to start for the Western Conference in the NBA All-Star Game eight times, and was named to the All-NBA Team five times. During his final season, he was the tallest active player in the NBA, at 2.29 m.
Wang Zhizhi is a Chinese former professional basketball player who is currently the head coach of the Bayi Rockets, the team with which he spent his domestic career in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). James Taft "Jimmer" Fredette is an American professional basketball player for the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association. Fredette was the 2011 National Player of the Year in college basketball after ranking as the leading scorer in all of NCAA Division I during his senior season for the BYU Cougars. He was subsequently selected with the tenth overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft, but only played limited minutes across four teams over five NBA seasons. He spent the majority of the 2015–16 season in the NBA Development League, during which he won the All-Star Game MVP.
Bob Donewald Jr. is an American basketball coach who is currently an assistant coach for the Texas Longhorns. He was an NBA assistant with the New Orleans Hornets and Cleveland Cavaliers from 2001 to 2004, and an ABA head coach from 2004-2005.
