The 2016 Montserrat Championship was the eighth recorded season of the competition. [1] It was the first iteration of the season in nearly 12 years.

The competition was won by Royal Montserrat Police Force.

The Montserrat Championship is the top association football division in Montserrat. It was created in 1974 but has been competed-for only sporadically since then, partially as a result of the Soufrière Hills eruption causing widespread devastation to the island in 1997. Between 2005 and 2015, no league was played in this country at all. The league restarted in 2016, but has not been played since 2018.

The 1997 Thai Premier League consisted of 12 teams. The bottom club would be relegated to the Thailand Division 1 League. The club that came 11th would play in a relegation / promotion match against the club that came second in the Thailand Division 1 League

For this season the format was changed to a single round robin series of matches from the home and away format utilised in previous seasons. The championship was won by the Police, following a 1–1 draw against Ideal in what was essentially a title decider in the final round of matches. This was their fifth title out of the six completed seasons to date.
