The 2016 Montserrat Championship was the eighth recorded season of the competition. [1] It was the first iteration of the league season in nearly 12 years. Most league games took place in front of dozens of people. The competition was won by Royal Montserrat Police Force.

Montserrat is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. It is part of the Leeward Islands, the northern portion of the Lesser Antilles chain of the West Indies. The team plays at the Blakes Estate Stadium. The Montserrat football team was formed in 1973, and has entered the World Cup qualifiers since the 2002 edition, being eliminated in the first round on each occasion.

The Montserrat Championship is the top association football division in Montserrat. It was created in 1974 but has been competed-for only sporadically, partially as a result of the Soufrière Hills eruption causing widespread devastation to the island in 1997. Between 2005 and 2015, no league was played. The league restarted in 2016, but has been stopped again in 2018.

The sport of association football in the island of Montserrat is run by the Montserrat Football Association. The association administers the national football team, as well as the national football league. They are one of the few remaining FIFA members that have never had proven women's football. Financial reports for 2020 mention expenditures for women's football initiatives and domestic competition though, so it is possible that limited activity has been starting.

After beating the opposition Montserrat from the documentary (4–0), he spent some time attempting to improve Bhutanese football quality before returning to assistant coaching and having spells at Oita Trinita and Namibia, the latter of whom he guided to the 2008 African Cup of Nations.

The championship was won by the Royal Montserrat Police Force, their third title out of the four completed seasons to date. From the final league table it would appear that the last round of matches for the top two teams and the last two rounds of matches for the bottom two teams were not played once it was established that no results from these games could affect the final league standings.

The 2002–03 season of the Montserrat Championship was the sixth recorded season of top flight association football competition in Montserrat, with records for any competition held between 1975 and 1995 not available, and the third iteration of the championship since the 1996–97 season was abandoned when the Soufrière Hills erupted causing widespread devastation to the island. For this season the format was changed to a single round robin series of matches from the home and away format utilised in previous seasons. The championship was won by the Police, following a 1–1 draw against Ideal in what was essentially a title decider in the final round of matches. This was their fifth title out of the six completed seasons to date.
