2016 Shillong Premier League was the 2016 edition of Shillong Premier League, top division football league in the Indian state of Meghalaya. The league began on 18 August with eight teams competing. It was known as the Geonee Shillong Premier League this season for sponsorship reasons. [2]

Shillong Lajong Football Club, formerly known as Lajong SC, is an Indian professional football club, based in Shillong, Meghalaya, that competes in the Shillong Premier League. The club was established in 1983 with the prime objective of improving the declining standard of football in the state, and to spot, train and nurture local talent. In the local Khasi language, Lajong translates to "our own". They have also competed in the I-League, then top flight of Indian football league system.

They also compete in the Shillong Premier League, the top tier state football league in Meghalaya.

Nehru Stadium is a football stadium in Shillong, Meghalaya, India. It is used mainly for football and hosted the home matches of Shillong Lajong FC and Rangdajied United FC, in the I-League. The stadium has a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators.

Royal Wahingdoh Football Club, also known as Wahingdoh Sports Club, was an Indian professional football club based in Shillong, Meghalaya. It has participated in the I-League, then top flight of Indian football league system. Royal Wahingdoh holds the record for the highest number of consecutive Shillong Premier League titles, having won the finals in December 2010, 2011 and in 2012.
