The tournament in Xi'an was a new addition to the ITF Women's Circuit.

The 2014 ITF Women's Circuit – Xi'an was a professional tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the first edition of the tournament which was part of the 2014 ITF Women's Circuit, offering a total of $50,000 in prize money. It took place in Xi'an, China, on 23–29 June 2014.

Monica Niculescu and Klára Koukalová were the defending champions, but Koukalová chose not to participate. Niculescu played alongside Zarina Diyas, but they lost in the first round to Lyudmyla Kichenok and Nadiia Kichenok.

2015 WTA Elite Trophy doubles was a doubles tennis competition held as part of the 2015 WTA Elite Trophy tournament. 2015 was the event's first year. Liang Chen and Wang Yafan won the title, defeating Anabel Medina Garrigues and Arantxa Parra Santonja in the final, 6–4, 6–3.

This was the first edition of the tournament. Liang Chen and Wang Yafan won the title, defeating Varatchaya Wongteanchai and Yang Zhaoxuan in the final 6–3, 6–4.

The 2016 WTA Elite Trophy was a women's tennis tournament played at the Hengqin International Tennis Center in Zhuhai, China from 1 to 6 November 2016. It was the second edition of the singles event and doubles competition. The tournament was contested by twelve singles players and six doubles teams.

Liang Chen and Wang Yafan were the defending champions, but lost in the final to Varatchaya Wongteanchai and Yang Zhaoxuan, 4–6, 6–4, [10–7].

Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and Lu Jiajing were the defending champions, but both players chose not to participate.

Varatchaya Wongteanchai and Yang Zhaoxuan were the defending champions, but chose not to participate together. Wongteanchai played alongside Nao Hibino, but lost in the quarterfinals to Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua. Yang teamed up with Shuko Aoyama, but lost in the quarterfinals to Elise Mertens and İpek Soylu.

İpek Soylu and Xu Yifan were the defending champions, but did not participate this year.

Liang Chen and Wang Yafan were the defending champions when the event was previously held in 2015, however, Liang chose not to participate. Wang successfully defended her title alongside Duan Yingying, defeating Dalila Jakupović and Irina Khromacheva 6–3, 6–3 in the final.

Han Xinyun and Zhu Lin were the defending champions, but chose not to participate together. Han partnered Vera Zvonareva, but lost in the semifinals to Duan Yingying and Wang Yafan. Zhu played alongside You Xiaodi, but lost in the first round to Prarthana Thombare and Xun Fangying.
