The Iowa Hawkeyes are the athletic teams that represent the University of Iowa, located in Iowa City, Iowa. Tammy Kay Williams is an American, former collegiate four-time All-American, four-time professional All-Star softball player and coach. She played her natural position at shortstop from 2006 to 2009 at Northwestern, as well as the Team USA and Chicago Bandits softball team. She owns Northwestern' softball team all-time career records in batting average, home runs, hits and total bases. She helped lead the Wildcats to a national runner up finish in the 2006 Women's College World Series. Williams was drafted tenth overall by the Chicago Bandits in the 2009 NPF Draft, winning two Cowles Cup championships in 2011 and 2015. She later worked as a sports broadcaster for the Big Ten and an assistant softball coach at Northern Illinois.
Each year the Miss Georgia Basketball award is given to the person chosen as the best high school girls basketball player in the U.S. state of Georgia. The award winner is selected by members of the Atlanta Tip Off Club.
The 2011 Vanderbilt Commodores football team represented Vanderbilt University during the 2011 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Commodores played their seven home games at Vanderbilt Stadium at Dudley Field in Nashville, Tennessee, which has been Vanderbilt football's home stadium since 1922. The team's head coach was James Franklin, who was in his first year at Vanderbilt. Hired at Vanderbilt on December 17, 2010, he was previously the offensive coordinator and "head coach in waiting" at the University of Maryland. Vanderbilt has been a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) since the league's inception in 1932, and has participated in the conference's Eastern Division since its formation for the 1992 season. Vanderbilt completed the 2011 regular season with an overall record of 6–6 and a mark of 2–6 in conference play, finishing in a tie with Kentucky for fourth place in the SEC East. They were invited to the Liberty Bowl where they were defeated by Cincinnati 24–31 to finish the season 6–7. 2011. The seniors of the 2011 Vanderbilt football team became the first class in program history to qualify for two bowl games while at the school. Vanderbilt had only been to bowls in 1955 VS Auburn, 1974 VS Texas Tech, 1982 VS Air Force, and 2008 VS Boston College.
Levine-Fricke Field is a college softball stadium in Berkeley, California, on the campus of the University of California. Opened in 1995, it is the home field of the California Golden Bears of the Pac-12, with a seating capacity of 1,204. Levine-Fricke Field is located in the Strawberry Canyon just east of California Memorial Stadium and Witter Rugby Field.
Angel Robinson is a Minnesota native basketball forward. She registered in 134 games and started all but two games of her career. Robinson completed her career at MU as the only player in program history with over 1,500 points, 500 assists and 250 steals. She ranks in the top 12 in eight career statistical categories, including an MU-record 134 career games played. Robinson was selected First Team selection and WBCA All-America Team finalist. She was also a two time ALL-BIG EAST First Team selection and a member of the 2008 ALL- BIG EAST Freshman team. The American forward was drafted 22nd overall by the New York Liberty in 2011 WNBA Draft and traded to the Minnesota Lynx, who released her before the season began. She also signed a one-year deal to play for Ceyhan-Belediyesi SC in the Adana Province of Turkey. Robinson spent time playing for Telge in Sweden and currently plays in Switzerland.
Sierra Joy Romero is a Mexican American professional softball player. She formerly was a volunteer assistant softball coach for the Oregon Ducks softball team. She played college softball for Michigan from 2013 to 2016, where she set numerous records and was a four-time All-American. She holds the Big Ten Conference career Triple Crown, along with the total bases and slugging percentage records, simultaneously leading all of the NCAA Division I in runs scored and grand slams. She was the inaugural winner of both the espnW Softball Player of the Year in 2015 and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Player of the Year in 2016, when she also took home the Honda Sports Award Softball Player of the Year and USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year awards. She is one of nine NCAA players to hit .400 with 200 RBIs, 50 home runs and an .800 slugging percentage for her career and was named the #5 Greatest College Softball Player.

The season progressed through the regular season, many conference tournaments and championship series, and concluded with the 2015 NCAA Division I softball tournament and 2015 Women's College World Series. The Women's College World Series, consisting of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA Tournament and held annually in Oklahoma City at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium, ended in June 2015.
Andrew Alexander Kean is a Scottish former professional footballer and entrepreneur. Kean played college soccer for the University of Cincinnati and became the program's first All-American award winner. He was inducted into the Bearcats Hall of Fame in 2010, alongside NFL Super Bowl winner Brad Jackson and Olympic Gold medallist Mary Wineberg. Kean is the Founder and Chief Executive of the sports scholarship agency FirstPoint USA.

The winner of the tournament received the Big Ten Conference's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship. All six conference teams competed in the event. The tournament format is single elimination. The seeds were based upon the teams' regular season conference record. Maryland won their first conference tournament championship after winning the first two regular season crowns in conference history.

The 2018 Big Ten softball tournament was held at Goodman Softball Complex on the campus of University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin from May 10 through May 12, 2018. As the tournament winner, Minnesota earned the Big Ten Conference's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Division I softball tournament. All games of the tournament aired on BTN.
