The 2017 Party of Growth presidential primaries is the selection process by which voters of the Party of Growth were to choose its potential nominee for President of Russia in the 2018 Russian presidential election. Voting for candidates took place via the internet.

History

At the end of July 2017, the Party of Growth decided on the list of participants in the primaries. [1]

On 10 August 2017, the party's press secretary told the media that the results of the primaries will be taken into account at the party congress which will be held to decide the candidate for Party of Growth; however, the winner of the primaries will not guarantee themselves the right to ballot on behalf of the party. [2]

On 26 November 2017, it was announced that the party will nominate Boris Titov, who was not involved in the primaries. According to a person from the party leadership, none of the proposed candidates were able to obtain sufficient support. [3]

Primary elections or often just primaries, are the process by which voters can indicate their preference for their party's candidate, or a candidate in general, in an upcoming general election, local election, or by-election. Mikhail Kasyanov Russian politician, Prime Minister of Russia (2000–2004)

Mikhail Mikhailovich Kasyanov is a Russian politician who served as Prime Minister of Russia from 2000 to 2004. Previously he had served as First Deputy Prime Minister in 2000 and Minister of Finance from 1999 to 2000. Party of Growth (Russian: Партия Роста; Partiya Rosta is a centre-right political party in Russia with representatives in several local legislatures. Founded on 18 February 2009 as a merger of the Union of Right Forces, Civilian Power and the Democratic Party of Russia, the party's main policy stances are liberal free market economy, democracy and protecting the rights of the middle class. Although widely regarded as a pro-Kremlin party, it has already found itself in opposition to the presidential administration on several occasions.

The 2018 Russian presidential election was held on 18 March 2018. Incumbent Vladimir Putin won reelection for his second consecutive term in office with 77% of the vote. Vladimir Zhirinovsky from the Liberal Democratic Party was the perennial candidate, having unsuccessfully run in five previous presidential elections. Other candidates included Pavel Grudinin, Sergey Baburin, Ksenia Sobchak, Maxim Suraykin, Boris Titov and Grigory Yavlinsky (Yabloko). Anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny announced his intent to run in December 2016 but was barred from doing so due to a prior criminal conviction, which may have been politically motivated, for corruption. Consequently, Navalny called for a boycott of the election. He had previously organized several public rallies against corruption among members of Putin's government.

Boris Yurievich Titov is a Russian politician, businessman, and Presidential Commissioner for Entrepreneurs’ Rights. He has led the Party of Growth previously known as "Just Cause" since February 2016.

Next Russian legislative election election

The next legislative election will be held in Russia no later than 19 September 2021 to elect the 450 seats for the 8th convocation of the State Duma, the lower house of the Federal Assembly. Going into the elections, United Russia is the ruling party after winning the 2016 elections with 54.2% of the vote and 343 seats.

2017 Bryansk by-election

Legislative elections were held in Russia on 18 September 2016. On 10 June 2017 Vladimir Zhutenkov resigned. On 14 June, the Central Election Commission scheduled a by-election in the Bryansk constituency for 10 September 2017.

He is the 4th and incumbent President of Russia; previously he was the 33rd Prime Minister of Russia, 2nd President of Russia and 4th Federal Security Service Director.

The 2018 presidential campaign of Boris Titov was announced on 26 November 2017, during a meeting of the federal council of the Party of Growth in Abrau-Dyurso. Titov is a somewhat marginal figure in the world of Russian politics, with 87% of the country's citizens admitting that they have "never heard of Boris Titov" in a survey held in December 2017. Political analysts were quick to dismiss Titov's electoral chances and predicted that he will garner no more than 1.5% of the vote.
