The 2017 Southern Utah Thunderbirds volleyball team represented Southern Utah University in the 2017 NCAA Division I women's volleyball season. The Thunderbirds were led by third year head coach Craig Choate and played their home games at Centrum Arena. The Thunderbirds were members of the Big Sky.

Southern Utah came off a season where they finished 2–14 in conference, 4–24 overall, good for sixth place in the South Division and tied for 11th overall. For 2017 the Thunderbirds were picked to finish sixth in the South, 12th overall, in the pre-season Big Sky poll. [1]

The Wildcats were led by second year head coach Bethann Ord and played their home games at the Dee Events Center. They were members of the Big Sky Conference.

The Wildcats were led by fifth-year head coach Jay Hill and played their games at Stewart Stadium as members of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 11–4, 7–1 in Big Sky play to finish in a two-way tie for the Big Sky championship with Sacramento State. They received the Big Sky's automatic bid to the FCS Playoffs where, after a first round bye, they defeated Kennesaw State in the second round and Montana in the quarterfinals before losing to James Madison in the semifinals.

The regular season began on August 26 and ended in November. The postseason began in November and ended on January 7, 2024, with the 2024 NCAA Division I Football Championship Game at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. South Dakota State repeated as champions, defeating Montana, 23–3.
