The 2017 Swedish Open was a tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts as part of the ATP World Tour 250 Series of the 2017 ATP World Tour and as part of the International Series on the 2017 WTA Tour. It took place in Båstad, Sweden, from 17 through 23 July 2017 for the men's tournament, and from 24 through 30 July 2017 for the women's tournament. It is also known as the 2017 SkiStar Swedish Open for the men and the 2017 Ericsson Open for the women for sponsorship reasons. It was the 70th edition of the event for the men and the 9th edition for the women.

Dominika Cibulková was the defending champion but withdrew before the tournament began.

Elina Svitolina was the defending champion, but chose to compete in Stuttgart instead.

Karolína Plíšková was the defending champion, but lost in the quarterfinals to Aryna Sabalenka.

Kiki Bertens was the defending champion, but lost in the third round to Maria Sakkari.

Garbiñe Muguruza defeated Barbora Krejčíková in the final, 7–6(8–6), 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis event at the 2021 Dubai Tennis Championships. Muguruza dropped just one set the entire tournament, to Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals.

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Ashleigh Barty in the final, 6–0, 3–6, 6–4, to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2021 Madrid Open. It was Sabalenka's 10th career WTA Tour singles title and her first title on clay.

Paula Badosa defeated Victoria Azarenka in the final, 7–6(7–5), 2–6, 7–6(7–2), to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2021 Indian Wells Masters. At three hours and four minutes, the final was the longest women's final contested at Indian Wells. By winning the title, Badosa became the first Spanish woman to win the tournament. This was her first WTA 1000 title and her second career WTA singles title overall. Azarenka was aiming to become the first woman to win the title at Indian Wells three times.

This was the first edition of the tournament.

Iga Świątek defeated Anett Kontaveit in the final, 6–2, 6–0 to win the singles title at the 2022 Qatar Open.

Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková were the defending champions, but were unable to defend their title as Krejčíková tested positive for COVID-19 before their first round match. As a result, Elise Mertens will regain the WTA no. 1 doubles ranking from Siniaková at the end of the tournament.
