The 2018 Lanzhou toll crash was caused by a truck driver losing control of his vehicle and driving into a line of waiting cars in Lanzhou, China on November 3, 2018. According to local sources, 15 people were killed and another 44 injured in the 31 vehicle crash. [1] The crash came about a week after the Chongqing bus crash. [2]
At 7:21 pm local time (11:20 GMT) on November 3, the 45-year-old truck driver from the Liaoning province crashed a tower-crane truck into a line of 31 vehicles about 50 meters from the Lanzhou South Toll Station on the Lanzhou-Haikou expressway. [3] The section of the highway connects Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu and Haikou, the capital of Hainan. The truck driver was slightly injured in the crash, and was detained by police in order to begin the investigation into the crash. Local media has reported that the driver has claimed that the brakes of the vehicle had failed, and the lack of control had caused the crash.[ citation needed ] CCTV of the area, documented the crash and its aftermath, along with the heavy snow that the area was experiencing. Ten of the forty-four injured sustained serious injuries, [4] and fifteen people were reportedly killed. [5]
A multiple vehicle collision, is a road traffic collision involving many vehicles. Generally occurring on high-capacity and high-speed routes such as freeways, they are one of the deadliest forms of traffic collisions. The most disastrous pileups have involved more than a hundred vehicles.

When fully complete, it will be 2,570 km (1,600 mi) in length. It is one of the most important routes between Northwest China and the Southwest, and considered one of the developmental axes of Development of Western China.
The G7211 Nanning–Youyiguan Expressway, commonly referred to as the Nanyou Expressway, is a 225.06-kilometre-long expressway (139.85 mi) in the Chinese autonomous region of Guangxi that connects the city of Nanning, the capital of Guangxi, and Friendship Pass, known in Chinese as Youyiguan, a border crossing between China and Vietnam. The Friendship Pass is located in the county-level city of Pingxiang, under the administration of the city of Chongzuo. At the border, the expressway connects with the North–South Expressway East in Vietnam. The expressway is designated G7211, and opened on 28 December 2005.
The September 3, 1999, Ontario Highway 401 crash, was a multiple-vehicle collision that resulted from dense fog conditions on a section of Ontario Highway 401 between Windsor and Tilbury. There were 87 vehicles involved in the pile-up in both directions of the divided highway, killing eight people and injuring a further 45.
Tesla Autopilot is an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) developed by Tesla that amounts to partial vehicle automation. Tesla provides "Base Autopilot" on all vehicles, which includes lane centering and traffic-aware cruise control. Owners may purchase an upgrade to "Enhanced Autopilot" (EA) which adds semi-autonomous navigation on limited access roadways, self-parking, and the ability to summon the car from a garage or parking spot. The company claims the features reduce accidents caused by driver negligence and fatigue from long-term driving. Collisions and deaths involving Tesla cars with Autopilot engaged have drawn the attention of the press and government agencies.
On 14 October 2017, two truck bombings took place in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, killing at least 587 people and injuring 316 others. Almost all of the casualties were caused by one of the trucks, which detonated when the driver, while attempting to escape from security officials, crashed through a barrier and exploded in the Hodan District, destroying a hotel. The intended target of the attack is believed to have been a secure compound housing international agencies and troops. The second blast happened close by, killing two people. A third explosives-laden truck was captured by police.
The Lanzhou South Ring Expressway, designated G2201, is a 58.743-kilometre-long expressway (36.501 mi) that bypasses the built-up area of Lanzhou on the south side, the capital of Gansu Province. The design speed of the road is 80 kilometres per hour (50 mph). Construction started in 2014 and the Expressway was opened on 29 December 2018. The construction cost was budgeted at 11.8 billion yuan.
The 1991 Interstate 5 dust storm was a dust storm which occurred on November 29, 1991, along Interstate 5 (I-5) north of the city of Coalinga, California. The storm caused a 104-vehicle traffic collision on the highway which killed 17 people and injured 150.
On 2 April 2021, at 09:28 NST (01:28 UTC), a Taroko Express train operated by the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) derailed at the north entrance of Qingshui Tunnel in Heren Section, Xiulin Township, Hualien County, Taiwan, killing 49 people and injuring at least 200 others, making it the deadliest railway accident in Taiwan in terms of confirmed deaths.
On 7 November 2021, 19 people were killed in a large crash on the Mexican Federal Highway. A shampoo truck smashed into cars at a toll booth on the highway connecting Mexico City with Puebla, causing a large fire.
