The 2018 Piala Sumbangsih was the 33rd edition of the Piala Sumbangsih, an annual football match played between the winners of the previous season's Malaysia Super League and Malaysia Cup. But since both competitions are won by the same club the previous year, the match will be played against Malaysia FA Cup winner's instead. The game was played between the Kedah FA, winners of the 2017 Malaysia FA Cup, and Johor Darul Ta'zim F.C., champions of the 2017 Malaysia Super League. [1]

Piala Sumbangsih, also known as Piala Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, is the Malaysian super cup competition. It is the curtain raiser match to the new Malaysian football season, pitting the reigning Malaysia Super League champions against the previous year's winners of the Malaysia Cup.
Johor Darul Ta'zim Football Club or simply JDT is a professional football club based in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. The club was founded in 1972 as PKENJ FC and currently competes in the top division of Malaysian football, the Malaysia Super League. The club is owned by Tunku Ismail Idris. In 2014, JDT gained their first major honour by winning the national league during the first season under Croatian manager Bojan Hodak. Matthew Thomas Davies is a professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Malaysia Super League club Johor Darul Ta'zim and the Malaysia national team. He started his professional career with Perth Glory at 18 years old. After playing for two seasons at Perth Glory Davies went on to Sri Pahang in 2015 in the Malaysia Super League, after his first season Davies was given captaincy for Sri Pahang at age 21 years old, making him the youngest captain ever for Sri Pahang and the first half Malaysian to become captain in the Malaysia Super League.

Hence, the game was played between the champions of the 2020 Malaysia Super League, Johor Darul Ta'zim, and the league's runners-up, Kedah Darul Aman.

The match was played between Johor Darul Ta'zim, who were the champions of the 2021 Malaysia Super League, and Kuala Lumpur City, who were the winners of the 2021 Malaysia Cup. It was held at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Johor.
