The 2018 season was Kedah's 10th season in the Malaysia Super League since its inception in 2004. They also participated in Malaysia FA Cup and Malaysia Cup.
On 3 December 2017, it was reported that two Kedah footballers & coach were alleged match fixing and have their statement taken by the police. [1] This was after 6 Kedah footballers and coach Nidzam Adzha Yusoff after were accused by a fan on Facebook of throwing the Malaysia Cup final match on Nov 4. [2]
On 11 December 2017, it was announced that former Kedah assistant head coach Ramon Marcote has returned to the side for the 2018 season, this time as the head coach. [3]

The 2016 Malaysia FA Cup was the 27th season of the Malaysia FA Cup, a knockout competition for Malaysia's state football association and clubs. It was sponsored by Kopi Superbest Power, and was known as the Superbest Power Piala FA due to sponsorship purposes. LionsXII were the defending champions after beating Kelantan 3–1 in the previous season, but did not compete in this edition.
The 2016 season was Felda United's 10th competitive season and 6th consecutive season in the top flight of Malaysian football, Liga Super.
