The Suriname national football team represents Suriname in international football. The team is controlled by the Surinamese Football Association, which is a member of CONCACAF.
The December murders were the murders on 7, 8, and 9 December 1982, of fifteen prominent young Surinamese men who had criticized the military dictatorship then ruling Suriname. Thirteen of these men were arrested on December 7 between 2 am and 5 am while sleeping in their homes. The other two were Surendre Rambocus and Jiwansingh Sheombar who were already imprisoned for attempting a countercoup in March 1982. Soldiers of Dési Bouterse took them to Fort Zeelandia, where they were heard as "suspects in a trial" by Bouterse and other sergeants in a self-appointed court. After these "hearings" they were tortured and shot dead. The circumstances remain unclear. On 10 December 1982, Bouterse claimed on national television that all of the detainees had been shot dead "in an attempt to flee".
Lelydorp is the capital city of Wanica District, located in Suriname’s north. With a population of 18,663 (2012), it is the second largest city in Suriname, after Paramaribo.
Charlon Anduele Romano Kloof is a Dutch-Surinamese basketball player for Heroes Den Bosch of the BNXT League. Standing at 6 ft 3 in, Kloof plays the point guard position and is a current member of the Dutch national basketball team.
Niermala Badrising is a Surinamese diplomat and politician. She was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Suriname in the cabinet of President Dési Bouterse between 12 August 2015 and 1 February 2017. She was ambassador to the United States from July 2017 until October 2021.
Gleofilo Sabrino Rudewald Vlijter is a Surinamese professional footballer who plays as a striker for Serbian SuperLiga club OFK Beograd and the Suriname national team.
NAKS is a social and cultural organization which promotes Afro-Surinamese culture and expression in Suriname and worldwide. The organisation was founded in 1948 with Eugène Drenthe as its first president, when it emerged as the successor of association football club T.O.P. which was founded a year prior.
Maldonado Rodolfo José Ramírez García is a Guatemalan badminton player and coach. Rodolfo Ramirez won the Men's Doubles event at the Pan American Badminton Championships in 2009 with partner Kevin Cordón. They together also won a gold medal at the 2010 CACSO Games. From 19-21 April 2022 Rodolfo Ramirez was appointed headcoach at the Caribbean Easter badminton camp 2022 in Paramaribo, Suriname.
Alvaro Verwey is a Surinamese footballer who previously played for WBC of the SVB Topklasse. He is the first native-born Surinamese youth player to sign for a European club directly from Suriname.
The ancestral background of presidents of the United States has been relatively consistent throughout American history. The most common ancestry of U.S. presidents is English, due to its origins as a group of former English colonies. With the exception of Martin Van Buren and possibly Dwight D. Eisenhower, every president has ancestors from the British Isles; Van Buren was of Dutch lineage and Eisenhower was of German and Swiss heritage. John F. Kennedy and Donald J. Trump are the only known presidents who did not have ancestors who arrived during the colonial period. Barack Obama is thus far the only president to have ancestry from outside of Europe; his paternal family is of Kenyan Luo ancestry. He is also believed to be a direct descendant of John Punch, a colonial-era slave born in modern-day Cameroon. There is no evidence that any president has had Indigenous American ancestry.

The Constitutional Court is the constitutional court for the Republic of Suriname. Its establishment was already foreseen in both the constitution of Suriname of 1975 and the current constitution of 1987, but it took until 4 October 2019 for the National Assembly to enact a law providing for the establishment of a constitutional court. After some errors concerning the official proclamation of the establishment of the court were corrected, the members of the court were installed on 7 May 2020.
The mineral industry of Suriname makes up a large proportion of the country's economy. In 1916, the Aluminium Company of America began mining bauxite in the then Dutch colony of Surinam which over time became Suriname's main export.
