Two-time defending champion Rafael Nadal successfully defended his title, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final, 6–2, 6–1. By winning the title, Nadal retained the ATP no. 1 singles ranking. It was Nadal's record-extending eleventh Barcelona Open title and his 20th ATP 500 title overall, equaling Roger Federer's record. It was Tsitsipas' maiden ATP final.

The tournament was played on a hard surface. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and many ATP tournaments having been cancelled, this year's event was upgraded to ATP 500 level.
Marin Čilić defeated Félix Auger-Aliassime in the final, 7–6(7–2), 6–3, to win the singles tennis title at the 2021 Stuttgart Open. It was Čilić's 19th career ATP Tour singles title, his first in three years, and he did not drop a set en route to the victory. The No. 47-ranked 32-year-old Čilić also became the lowest-ranked winner since Juan Carlos Ferrero in 2011 and the third-oldest champion in tournament history. 2019 finalist Auger-Aliassime was contesting for his first career singles title in his eighth final.
Alexander Zverev defeated Andrey Rublev in the final, 6–2, 6–3 to win the men's singles title at the 2021 Cincinnati Masters. It was his fifth ATP Tour Masters 1000 title and 17th career singles title on the ATP Tour.

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Casper Ruud in the final, 7–5, 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2022 Miami Open. It was his first ATP Tour Masters 1000 title, and he became the first Spaniard to win the title. The victory also made Alcaraz, at 18 years and 333 days old, the youngest men's singles titlist in Miami Open history, and the youngest Masters 1000 champion since Rafael Nadal at the 2005 Monte Carlo Masters. Ruud became the first Norwegian to reach a Masters 1000 final, and the first Scandinavian since Robin Söderling at the 2010 Paris Masters.
Hubert Hurkacz and John Isner defeated Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski in the final, 7–6(7–5), 6–4 to win the men's doubles title at the 2022 Miami Open. Isner completed the Sunshine Double, having previously won the title at Indian Wells alongside Jack Sock. He became the first player to do so in men's doubles since Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in 2016.
Novak Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final, 6–0, 7–6(7–5) to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2022 Italian Open. It was his sixth Italian Open title and record-extending 38th Masters 1000 title overall. Djokovic did not lose a set during the tournament, and won his 1000th tour-level career match against Casper Ruud in semifinal. It was the first title he won in 2022.
