Defending champion Novak Djokovic defeated Richard Gasquet in the final, 6–3, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2012 Canadian Open.

Roger Federer defeated Novak Djokovic in the final, 6–0, 7–6 (9–7) to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2012 Cincinnati Masters. It was his record fifth Cincinnati Masters title, and the first time that a player won an ATP Tour Masters 1000 event without having his serve broken or losing a set. Federer would repeat this accomplishment at the 2015 event. It was Djokovic's fourth runner-up finish at the tournament.

Andy Murray defeated Novak Djokovic in the final, 6–4, 7–5, 6–4 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 2013 Wimbledon Championships. It was his first Wimbledon title and second major title overall. He became the first Briton to win the title since Fred Perry in 1936, ending a 77-year drought, as well as the first British winner in singles since Virginia Wade won the women's event in 1977. He was also the first Scot to win the title since Harold Mahony in 1896.

John Isner successfully defended his title by beating Tomáš Berdych 3–6, 6–4, 7–6(11–9) in the final.

Novak Djokovic defeated the two-time defending champion Andy Murray in the final, 5–7, 7–6(13–11), 6–3 to win the singles tennis title at the 2012 Shanghai Masters. Djokovic saved five championship points en route to the title, and ended Murray's perfect 12–0 record at the event. The final was voted as the best ATP World Tour match of the 2012 season.

Novak Djokovic defeated the eight-time defending champion Rafael Nadal in the final, 6–2, 7–6(7–1) to win the singles tennis title at the 2013 Monte-Carlo Masters. With the win, Djokovic ended Nadal's 46-match winning streak at the event, the longest win streak at a single tournament in tennis history. Additionally, Djokovic became the first player to win singles titles at eight of the nine Masters 1000 tournaments.

Robin Haase was the two-time defending champion, but lost in the semifinals to Marcel Granollers. Granollers went on to win the title, defeating Juan Mónaco in the final, 0–6, 7–6(7–3), 6–4.

The world's no.1 doubles pairing, the Bryan brothers, were originally slated to play the event. This would have been the Bryans' first-ever appearance at Halle, after over a decade of playing in the Queen's Club Championships prior to Wimbledon. However, the Bryans withdrew just prior to the start of the tournament.

He won the title without losing a set or having his serve broken for the second time, after 2012. It marked the first time Federer defeated the world No. 1 and No. 2 players in consecutive matches en route to a title. It was Djokovic's fifth runner-up finish without winning the title; he would eventually do so in 2018.
