Wilfried Huber is an Italian luger and coach who competed from 1985 to 2010. Together with Kurt Brugger, he won the men's doubles event at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. He competed in both doubles and singles, but enjoyed his greatest success in doubles in partnership with Brugger. He made his debut in the Luge World Cup in 1986-87 season. He also took two medals at the World Junior Championships in Olang in 1988, a silver and a bronze. He competed in six Winter Olympics, in 1988, 1992, 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006: he was aiming to compete at the 2010 Winter Olympics, however he was not selected by the Italian team's head coach Walter Plaikner, and retired at the end of the season.

FIL World Luge Championships world championship

The FIL World Luge Championships, part of the International Luge Federation (FIL) have taken place on an almost annual basis in non-Winter Olympics years since 1955. These championships are shown for artificial tracks. See FIL World Luge Natural Track Championships for all natural track events that have taken place since 1979.

The FIL European Luge Championships, part of the International Luge Federation (FIL) have taken place since 1914. From 1914 to 1934, these championships were part of the Internationaler Schlittensportsverband. From 1935 to 1956, the championships were held under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing. Since 1962, the event has been under the auspices of the FIL and has been held in even-numbered years since 1980. Since 2012, it is held annually.

Yuri Kharchenko is a Soviet luger who competed during the mid to late 1980s. He won the bronze medal in the men's singles event at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.

Markus Schmidt is an Austrian luger who competed between 1987 and 1997. Competing in two Winter Olympics, he earned a bronze medal in the men's singles event at Albertville in 1992.

Bettina Schmidt East German luger

Bettina Schmidt was an East German luger who competed during the mid-1980s. She was born in Staßfurt, Saxony-Anhalt. She won the silver medal in the women's singles event at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. Schmidt also won a gold medal in the women's singles event at the 1982 FIL European Luge Championships in Winterberg, West Germany. She tied for the overall Luge World Cup championship in women's singles in 1983-4 with fellow East German Steffi Martin.

Susi Erdmann East German bobsledder and luger

Susi-Lisa Erdmann is an East German-German luger and bobsledder who competed from 1977 to 1998 in luge, then since 1999 in bobsleigh. Competing in five Winter Olympics, she won two medals in the women's singles luge event with a silver in 1994 and a bronze in 1992, and a bronze at the inaugural two-women bobsleigh event in 2002. She is one of only two people to ever win a medal in both bobsleigh and luge at the Winter Olympics; Italy's Gerda Weissensteiner is the other.

Johannes Schettel is a West German luger who competed in the late 1980s. He won the bronze medal in the men's singles event at the 1989 FIL World Luge Championships in Winterberg, West Germany.

Gabriele Kohlisch luger

Gabriele Kohlisch is a German luger and bobsledder who competed from the mid-1980s to 1997 in luge, then from 1998 to the early 2000s in bobsleigh. She is one of only two people to win World Championship gold medals in both bobsledding and luge, the other being fellow German Susi Erdmann.

Sonja Wiedemann is a German luger who competed from 1999 to 2005. She won two medals in the women's singles at the FIL World Luge Championships with a gold in 1999 and a bronze in 2000.

Uwe Handrich East German luger

Uwe Handrich was an East German luger who competed during the early 1980s. He won the gold medal in the men's singles event at the 1982 FIL European Luge Championships in Winterberg, West Germany.

Viktor Ivanovich Kneib is a Russian luger who has competed since the late 1990s. Competing in four Winter Olympics, he earned his best finish of 9th in the men's doubles event at Nagano in 1998.

Christian Elza Niccum is a retired American luger who has competed since 1996 on the World Cup tour. He was the alternate in 1998, coached for Canada in 2002, finished 23rd in the men's singles event at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. Four years later in Vancouver, he finished sixth in the men's doubles event. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia he finished 6th as part of the US team in the team relay and finished 11th in the doubles with Jayson Terdiman.

Winterberg bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track winter sports facility in Germany

The Winterberg bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track is a bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track located in Winterberg, Germany. It is the only track of its kind in the world with a turn that has corporate sponsorship with turn seven being sponsored by Veltins, a German brewery which has its headquarters located in neighboring Meschede.

The 2009–10 Luge World Cup was a multi race tournament over a season for luge. The season started 17 November 2009 in Calgary, Canada and ended 31 January 2010 in Cesana, Italy. The World Cup was organised by the FIL and sponsored by Viessmann. This cup served as qualifiers up to 31 December 2009 for the 2010 Winter Olympics luge events in Vancouver.

Ralf Palik German luger

Ralf Palik is a German luger who has competed since 2002. At 2010–11 Luge World Cup season he placed 38th with 50 points. At 2011–12 Luge World Cup season he placed 6th with 366 points. At Winterberg on January 2012 he was second.

Julian von Schleinitz is a German luge athlete who represents his nation in the men's singles luge event in international competition. In 2010 he won the junior world championship in the event. During the 2010-11 luge World Cup season he placed third in the event held in Winterberg and during the 2013-14 Luge World Cup season he again placed third in an event, this time in Oberhof.

The 2017 IBSF Junior Bobsleigh World Championships took place at the Winterberg bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track in Winterberg, Germany, from 27 to 29 January 2017.

Kristers Aparjods Latvian luger

Kristers Aparjods is a Latvian luger. He started competing in luge in 2006. He took the gold medal in the singles event in the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, where he was also selected as the flag bearer for the Latvians in the opening ceremony. He was also part of the Latvian team which won the team relay at the 2015 Junior World Championships in Lillehammer, and went on to take a silver in the singles at the 2016 Junior World Championships in Winterberg, Germany, and a gold in the singles on home ice at the 2017 Junior Worlds at Sigulda. He competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics, finishing 11th in the men's singles event and sixth as part of the Latvian team in the team relay.

2019 FIL World Luge Championships

The 2019 FIL World Luge Championships took place under the auspices of the International Luge Federation at the Winterberg bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track in Winterberg, Germany from 25 to 27 January 2019.
