The Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) is one of the two major political parties in Sierra Leone, along with its main political rival the All People's Congress (APC). It has been the ruling party in Sierra Leone since April 4, 2018. The SLPP dominated Sierra Leone's politics from its foundation in 1951 to 1967, when it lost the 1967 parliamentary election to the APC, led by Siaka Stevens. Originally a centre-right conservative party, since 2012 it identifies as a social democratic party, with a centrist tendency.

Julius Maada Wonie Bio is a Sierra Leonean politician, and the current president of Sierra Leone since 4 April 2018. He is a retired brigadier in the Sierra Leone Army and was the military head of state of Sierra Leone from 16 January 1996 to 29 March 1996, in a military junta government known as the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC).

Charles Francis Kondo Margai is a Sierra Leonean politician and constitutional lawyer who served as Attorney General and Minister of Justice of Sierra Leone in 2018.

Solomon Ekuma Dominic Berewa was Vice-President of Sierra Leone from May 2002 to September 2007. Standing as the candidate of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP), he was defeated in the second round of the 2007 presidential election by Ernest Bai Koroma of the All People's Congress (APC).

General elections were held in Sierra Leone on 11 August 2007. Seven candidates competed in the first round of the presidential election; no candidate received the necessary 55% of the vote to win in the first round, and a second round was held between the top two candidates, Ernest Bai Koroma of the All People's Congress (APC) and Solomon Berewa of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP), on 8 September. According to official results, Koroma won the election with 54.6% of the vote.

Joseph Bandabla Dauda widely known as J. B. Dauda, was a Sierra Leonean politician. He was Second Vice-President of Sierra Leone, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice from November 1991 to April 1992. Later he was Minister of Finance in 2002, Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2010 to 2012, and Minister of Internal Affairs from 2013 to 2016.

Magburaka Government Secondary School for Boys is a government-sponsored secondary school based in Magburaka, in the Tonkolili District, Sierra Leone. The school is one of the oldest secondary schools in Sierra Leone. The Magburaka Government Secondary School for Boys has a history of producing some of Sierra Leone's most prominent people, including current Sierra Leone's president Ernest Bai Koroma, minister of Education Minkailu Bah and writer, novelist and author Karamoh Kabba.

Albert Joe Demby was a Sierra Leonean politician and a member of the Sierra Leone People's Party. He served as the Vice President of Sierra Leone from 29 March 1996 to 25 May 1997, when the administration was overthrown by a military junta. After the junta was deposed in 1998, he continued his term until 1999, when he was dropped from the vice presidency by Ahmad Tejan Kabbah in favor of Foday Sankoh. The vice-presidency was stripped from Sankoh in 2000, and Demby took his place once again. Kabbah's term ended in 2002, and Demby was succeeded as Vice President by Solomon Berewa, who had previously served as Minister of Justice and Attorney-General. Like Berewa, Joe Demby was from the Mende ethnic group.

The Supreme Court of Sierra Leone is the highest court in Sierra Leone. It has final jurisdiction in all civil, criminal, and constitutional cases within Sierra Leone, and its decisions cannot be appealed. The Supreme Court has the exclusive constitutional power to overturn ruling of lower courts within the jurisdiction of Sierra Leone. The Supreme Court, along with the Court of Appeals, High Court of Justice, and magistrate courts form the Judicial branch of the Government of Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone, a country in West Africa, has a special significance in the history of the transatlantic slave trade as the departure point for thousands of west African captives. The capital, Freetown, was founded as a home for repatriated former slaves in 1787. But the country's modern history has been overshadowed by a brutal civil war that ended in 2002 with the help of Britain, the former colonial power, and a large United Nations peacekeeping mission. Sierra Leone has experienced substantial economic growth in recent years, although the ruinous effects of the civil war continue to be felt. The country is also rich in diamonds and other minerals. The trade in illicit gems, known as "blood diamonds" for their role in funding conflicts, perpetuated the civil war. The government has sought to crack down on the trade.

Charlotte is a mountainous village in the Rural District in the Western Area of Sierra Leone. Charlotte is located about twenty miles outside Freetown, Sierra Leone's capital. Charlotte, is commonly known as Charlotte Village, and is in close proximity to the towns of Regent, and Leicester. The main economic activity in Charlotte is farming.

Baba Ibrahim Suma-Keita was a Sierra Leonean long-distance runner. He competed in the marathon at the 1980 Summer Olympics and the 1988 Summer Olympics.
