The 2021 Giro di Sicilia (known as Il Giro di Sicilia EOLO for sponsorship reasons [1] ) was the 25th edition of the Giro di Sicilia road cycling stage race and the second edition since its revival in 2019. [2] The race was originally scheduled for April but had been postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, which had also caused the cancellation of the 2020 edition. [1] [3]

Teams

Five of the 19 UCI WorldTeams, eight UCI ProTeams, and seven UCI Continental teams made up the 20 teams that participated in the race. [1] [4] Amore & Vita and Zalf Euromobil Fior, with six riders each, were the only teams to not enter a full squad of seven riders. 133 riders started the race, of which 84 finished. [5] [6]

Damiano Caruso is an Italian professional road bicycle racer, who rides for UCI WorldTeam Team Bahrain Victorious. A stage winner at both the 2021 Giro d'Italia and the 2021 Vuelta a España, Caruso was also the 2008 under-23 Italian national champion for the road race. He competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in the road race.

Juan Sebastián Molano Benavides is a Colombian professional racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam UAE Team Emirates.

The 2015 Giro del Trentino was the 39th edition of the Giro del Trentino cycling stage race. The official name of the race was Giro del Trentino-Melinda, as the former one-day race Trofeo Melinda merged with the Giro del Trentino due to financial issues. For this reason, the last stage of Giro del Trentino passed through Val di Sole and the Non Valley, on the traditional route of the Trofeo Melinda. The race started on 21 April in Riva del Garda and ended on 24 April in Cles. The race consisted of four stages; as in recent years, the first was a team time trial from Riva del Garda to Arco. The race was part of the 2015 UCI Europe Tour, and was rated as a 2.HC event.

The 2019 Giro di Sicilia was the twenty-fourth edition of the Giro di Sicilia, a men's multi-stage bicycle race. It was held between 3 and 6 June 2019 and was organised as a 2.1 event in the UCI Europe Tour. The race was won by Brandon McNulty.

The 2020 Giro d'Italia was a road cycling stage race that took place between 3 and 25 October, after initially being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally to have taken place from 9 to 31 May 2020, as the 103rd edition of the Giro d'Italia, a three-week Grand Tour. The start of the 2020 Giro had been planned to take place in Budapest, Hungary, which would have been the 14th time the Giro has started outside Italy, and the first time a Grand Tour has visited Hungary.

The 2021 Trek–Segafredo season was the team's 11th season overall, of which all of them have been at UCI WorldTeam level, and the 6th season under the current name.

The 2021 season for UAE Team Emirates was the 23rd season in the team's existence and the fifth under the current name. The team has been a UCI WorldTeam since 2005, when the tier was first established.

The 2021 Tirreno–Adriatico was a road cycling stage race that took place between 10 and 16 March 2021 in Italy. It was the 56th edition of Tirreno–Adriatico and part of the 2021 UCI World Tour.
