The 2021 Hazfi Cup was the 34th season of the Iranian football knockout competition. [1] [2]

Contents

The competition began in January 2021 and the final was played on August 8, 2021. Foolad won their first title after defeating Esteghlal in the final.

Participating teams

A total of 71 teams (out of a possible total of 96 eligible teams) participated. The teams were divided into four main groups. [3]

    The Iranian Super Cup is an Iranian association football trophy awarded to the winner of a match between the Persian Gulf Pro League's season champion and the winner of the Hazfi Cup. It is similar to numerous other Super Cup tournaments held in other countries.

    The 2010–11 Hazfi Cup was the 24th season of the Iranian football knockout competition.

    The 2010–11 Azadegan League was the 20th season of the Azadegan League and tenth as the second highest division since its establishment in 1991. The season featured 19 teams from the 2009–10 Azadegan League, three new teams relegated from the 2009–10 Persian Gulf Cup and four new teams promoted from the 2009–10 2nd Division. Foolad Natanz replaced Sepahan Novin, Machine Sazi replaced Petroshimi Tabriz and Sanat Sari replaced Mehrkam Pars. Shensa Arak changed their name to Hamyari Arak. The league started on 23 September 2010 and ended on 9 May 2011. Damash won the Azadegan League title for the first time in their history. Damash, Mes Sarcheshmeh and Moghavemat Shiraz gained promotion to the Persian Gulf Cup.

    The 2011–12 Hazfi Cup was the 25th season of the Iranian football knockout competition. Persepolis were the defending champion but were eliminated by Esteghlal in the quarter-finals. This was the fourth consecutive win for Esteghlal against Persepolis in official matches. The competition began on September 12, 2011 and ended on March 15, 2012. Esteghlal beat Shahin Bushehr 4–1 on penalties and was qualified for the group stage of the 2013 AFC Champions League.

    The 2012–13 Azadegan League was the 22nd season of the Azadegan League and 12th as the second highest division since its establishment in 1991. The season featured 19 teams from the 2011–12 Azadegan League, three new teams relegated from the 2011–12 Persian Gulf Cup and four new teams promoted from the 2011–12 2nd Division. Alvand Hamedan replaced PAS Novin Hamedan, Bargh Shiraz replaced Steel Azin and Sang Ahan replaced Tarbiat Yazd. The league started on 13 September 2012 and ended on 16 April 2013. Gostaresh Foulad and Esteghlal Khuzestan won the Azadegan League title for the first time in their history. Gostaresh Foulad and Esteghlal Khuzestan were promoted to the Persian Gulf Cup.

    The 2013–14 Hazfi Cup was the 27th season of the Iranian football knockout competition. Sepahan was the defending champion, but was eliminated by Sanat Naft in the Round of 32. The competition started on 4 September 2013 and ended on 14 February 2014. Tractor won the title, defeating Mes Kerman in the final.

    The 2015–16 Hazfi Cup was the 29th season of the Iranian football knockout competition. Zob Ahan Isfahan was the defending champion. The competition started on 27 August 2015 and the final was played on 29 May 2016.
    Zob Ahan won the tournament for the second time in a row after defeating Esteghlal in the final.

    The 2016–17 Hazfi Cup was the 30th season of the Iranian football knockout competition. Zob Ahan Isfahan, the defending champions, were eliminated by Tractor Sazi in the semi-final in extra time. The competition started on 12 September 2016, and the final was played on 11 May 2017. Naft Tehran defeated Tractor Sazi in the final, earning their first title.

Mehdi Sharifi, then center forward for Persian side Tractor SC was the Cup's top scorer with five goals. The Cup was won by Esteghla FC in a 1–0 victory over Khooneh Be Khooneh. The final's only goal was scored by Mame Thiam, an Esteghlal forward in the 35' minute of the game. This was Esteghlal seventh Hazfi Cup title.
