The Pioneer Football League (PFL) is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) as a football-only conference. It has member schools that range from New York, North Carolina, and Florida in the east to California in the west. It is headquartered in St. Louis, in the same complex that also contains the offices of the Missouri Valley Conference and Missouri Valley Football Conference. Unlike most other Division I FCS conferences, the Pioneer League consists of institutions that choose not to award athletic scholarships ("grants-in-aid") to football players.

Donald Payne is an American football linebacker for the Arlington Renegades of the XFL. He played college football at Stetson and was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2017 as the first player from Stetson to play in the NFL. He has also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Washington Football Team, the Miami Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers.

Under the agreement, Presbyterian was not eligible for the PFL title, but its players and coaches were eligible for individual PFL honors. They were led by tenth-year head coach Tommy Spangler, in his second stint as Presbyterian's head coach, as he coached the Blue Hose from 2001 to 2006 and resumed in 2017. The Blue Hose play their home games at Bailey Memorial Stadium.

Stetson Fleming Bennett IV is an American football quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Jones College and Georgia. Nicknamed "the Mailman", he started his career as a walk-on at Georgia before transferring to Jones College. Bennett transferred back to Georgia where he won consecutive national championships in 2021 and 2022, joining A. J. McCarron and Tommie Frazier as the only quarterbacks to win consecutive NCAA national championships.
