The 2021 Summit League softball tournament took place from May 12-15, 2022. The top six regular-season finishers of the league's seven teams met in the double-elimination tournament at Tharaldson Park on the campus of North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota.
North Dakota State were the defending champions, [2] since the 2020 season was cancelled midway through due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [3] South Dakota State won the tournament after beating Omaha in the final game. This was the Jacks' first Summit League title, [4] and earned the league's automatic berth to the 2021 NCAA Division I softball tournament.

Format and seeding

The top six teams from the regular season were seeded one through six based on conference record during the league regular season. The tournament played out as a modified double-elimination tournament, with the bottom four seeds playing each other in the single-elimination first round and the rest of the tournament as a double-elimination.

The Jackrabbits finished the season 26–8, 12–4 in Summit League play to share the Summit League regular season championship. They defeated Oral Roberts, Denver, and North Dakota State to win the Summit League tournament. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. As a No. 12 seed in the South Region, they were eliminated by No. 5 seed Maryland in the first round.

The 2016–17 South Dakota State Jackrabbits men's basketball team represented South Dakota State University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Jackrabbits, led by first-year head coach T. J. Otzelberger, played their home games at Frost Arena in Brookings, South Dakota as members of the Summit League. They finished the season 18–17, 8–8 in Summit League play to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place. As the No. 4 seed in the Summit League tournament, they defeated Denver, South Dakota, and Omaha to win the tournament championship. As a result, they earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. As the No. 16 seed in the West region, they lost in the first round to Gonzaga.

The 2016 Summit League women's soccer tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the Summit League, held from November 3 to 5, 2016. The three match tournament was held at Dacotah Field in Fargo, North Dakota. The four team single-elimination tournament consisted of two rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The South Dakota State Jackrabbits were the three-time defending tournament champions after defeating the North Dakota State Bison 3–0 in the championship match in 2015.

The 2017 Summit League women's soccer tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the Summit League held on November 2 and 4, 2017. The three-match tournament took place at Dacotah Field in Fargo, North Dakota. The four-team single-elimination tournament consisted of two rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The South Dakota State Jackrabbits were the defending champions, but they were eliminated from the 2017 tournament with a 2–0 semifinal loss to the North Dakota State Bison. The Denver Pioneers won the tournament and earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The tournament win was Denver's second as a member of the conference.

The Bison finished the season with a 30-23 record, and a 10-8 record in Summit League play. NDSU made it to the Summit League Tournament as the 3 seed. They defeated North Dakota and Omaha, before falling to South Dakota State and Omaha in the elimination game to be eliminated from contention.

The 2022 Summit League softball tournament took place from May 12–15, 2022. It was initially scheduled to begin on May 11 but was postponed due to severe weather. The top six regular-season finishers of the league's eight teams met in the double-elimination tournament at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium on the campus of South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. The winner of the tournament, South Dakota State, earned the Summit League's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division I softball tournament. After weather delays and power outages on South Dakota State's campus on May 13, the remaining games in the tournament were moved to Nygaard Field on the campus of the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota.

The 2022 North Dakota State Bison women's soccer team represented North Dakota State University during the 2022 NCAA Division I women's soccer season. The Bison play in the Summit League.
NDSU made the Summit League tournament as the fifth seed. They lost to Oral Roberts in the quarterfinals to be eliminated from contention. The Bison finished the season with an 8–9–3 record and a 4–5–0 Summit League record, good for fifth in the conference.

The Summit League softball tournament is the conference softball championship of the NCAA Division I's Summit League. The top six finishers in the regular season of the conference's eight teams advance to the modified double-elimination tournament, which in 2023 was held at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium in Brookings, South Dakota. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Division I softball championship.

The Bison were led by Darren Mueller in his twenty-second season, and played their home games at Tharaldson Park. They competed in the Summit League. The Bison finished the regular season in third place in the conference and claimed the three seed in the 2023 Summit League softball tournament. NDSU beat Kansas City on day 1, but lost to Omaha and South Dakota State on day 2 to be eliminated before the semifinals for the third year in a row.

North Dakota State was the defending champion, and successfully defended their title following their defeat of second-seeded South Dakota in the final round. This was the tenth Summit League title for the Bison, who earned the Summit League's automatic berth to the 2019 NCAA Division I softball tournament with the tournament title.

The 2023 Summit League softball tournament took place from May 10–14, 2023. The top six regular-season finishers of the league's eight teams met in the modified double-elimination tournament at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium on the campus of South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. The schedule for the tournament was modified a few times due to rain in the Brookings area during the tournament, with the title games suspended and moved to Sunday, May 14. Omaha won the tournament and earned the Summit League's automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Division I softball tournament. The defending champion, South Dakota State, made the title game of the tournament but was defeated by the Mavericks.

The 2023–24 North Dakota State Bison men's basketball team represented North Dakota State University during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bison, led by tenth year head coach David Richman, played their home games at the Scheels Center, as members of the Summit League.
NDSU made the Summit League tournament as the 5 seed. They lost to 4th seeded St. Thomas in the first round to be eliminated from postseason contention.
