The 2022 FIBA Women's European Championship for Small Countries was the 17th edition of this competition. The tournament took place in Nicosia, Cyprus, from 28 June to 3 July 2022. Luxembourg women's national basketball team are the defending champion; but they don't participate in this edition.

The Cyprus men's national basketball team represents Cyprus in international basketball, and is controlled by the Cyprus Basketball Federation. The national team is coached by Christophoros Livadiotis.
The Malta men's national basketball team represents Malta in international basketball. They are controlled by the Malta Basketball Association. Malta has been a FIBA member since 1967, and competes at tournaments such as the European Championship for Small Countries and the Games of the Small States of Europe.

Aleksandar Vezenkov, also known as Sasha Vezenkov, is a Greek-Bulgarian professional basketball player for Olympiacos B.C. of the Greek Basketball League. He is a 2.06 m tall 102 kg (225 lb.) power forward, that can also play as a small forward. Vezenkov was born in Cyprus, but due to his Bulgarian descent, he represents the Bulgarian national team. He holds triple citizenship for Bulgaria, Cyprus and Greece.
The FIBA 3x3 World Cup is a 3x3 basketball tournament for national teams organized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). The debut of the tournament then named as the FIBA 3x3 World Championship was held in August 2012 in Athens, Greece. The current champions are Serbia in the men's division and France in the women's division.
