Municipal election for Lalitpur took place on 13 May 2022, with all 147 positions up for election across 29 wards. [1] [2] The electorate elected a mayor, a deputy mayor, 29 ward chairs and 116 ward members. An indirect election will also be held to elect five female members and an additional three female members from the Dalit and minority community to the municipal executive. [3] [4]
Chiri Babu Maharjan of Nepali Congress was re-elected, winning 56.5% of the votes. [5]
Lalitpur was established as a municipality in 1953. The metropolitan city was created in 2017 by incorporating wards 1 to 13 of Karyabinayak municipality into Lalitpur sub-metropolitan city. Electors in each ward elect a ward chair and four ward members, out of which two must be female and one of the two must belong to the Dalit community. [6] [7]
In the previous election, Chiri Babu Maharjan from Nepali Congress was elected as the first mayor of the metropolitan city. [8]

The municipal executive consists of the mayor, who is also the chair of the municipal executive, the deputy mayor and ward chairs from each ward. The members of the municipal assembly will elect five female members and three members from the Dalit and minority community to the municipal executive. [16]

Municipal election for Kathmandu, capital of Nepal was held on May 14, 2017 for the position of Mayor, a Deputy Mayor, 32 Ward Chairmen and Ward Members. All positions are for a period of 5 years. A secondary election is to be held for municipal executive which will elect 5 women from the elected ward members and 3 members who must be from the Dalit and minority community. The electorate for this election will the 159 members chosen direct election.

Chiri Babu Maharjan is a Nepali politician serving as the Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City since 2017. A member of the Nepali Congress since 1989, he won the local elections of the then Lalitpur Municipality in the years 1981, 1987, and 1992, and consequently served as a Ward Chairperson of the 03-Ward for three times.

While it called back its members from the current coalition government arrangement, it continues its support to the government since 5 February 2023.
