The 2022 Oklahoma Sooners women's gymnastics team represented the University of Oklahoma during the 2021 NCAA Division I women's gymnastics. The Sooners were led by K.J. Kindler in her sixteenth season, and played their home meets at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma. They competed in the Big 12 Conference, where they finished the season with a 31–2–0 record.

Robert Anthony Stoops is an American football coach. He was the head football coach at the University of Oklahoma from 1999 through the 2016 season, and on an interim basis during the 2021 Alamo Bowl. He led the Oklahoma Sooners to a record of 191–48 over his career. His 2000 Oklahoma Sooners football team won the 2001 Orange Bowl, which served as the BCS National Championship Game, and earned a consensus national championship. Since 2020, Stoops has been a head coach with the XFL, coaching the Arlington Renegades in 2020 and has been re-signed for 2023.

Maile O'Keefe is an American artistic gymnast. She was a member of the U.S. National Team and is the 2016 and 2017 U.S. Junior National Champion. She currently competes for the University of Utah's NCAA gymnastics team and is a 2x NCAA champion.

The 40th edition of the tournament began on March 16, 2022, and concluded with the championship game on April 3 at Target Center in Minneapolis, where the South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the UConn Huskies 64–49 to win their second NCAA title.

The 2020–21 Stanford Cardinal women's basketball team represented Stanford University during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Cardinal, led by thirty-fifth year head coach Tara VanDerveer, played their home games at the Maples Pavilion as members of the Pac-12 Conference. As a result of Santa Clara County, California health orders, the Cardinal were unable to play in Palo Alto for much of their season, moving home games to Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz. They finished the season 31–2, 19–2 in Pac-12 play to finish in first place. They won the Pac-12 women's tournament by defeating UCLA, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA women's tournament where they defeated Utah Valley and Oklahoma State in the first and second rounds, Missouri State in the Sweet Sixteen, Louisville in the Elite Eight, South Carolina in the Final Four and Arizona in the National Championship Game to win its third NCAA title overall and first since 1992. Haley Jones was named the Final Four Most Outstanding Player.

The 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship Game was the final game of the 2021 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament, when the Stanford Cardinal defeated the Arizona Wildcats to become the national champions for the 2020–21 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The game was played on April 4, 2021, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Anastasia Maria Webb is a former American artistic gymnast. She competed for the Oklahoma Sooners women's gymnastics team. In 2021, she became the NCAA All Around Champion and tied for the floor and vault titles, to go along with OU's team championship from 2019.

The 2021 Michigan Wolverines women's gymnastics team represented the University of Michigan in the 2021 NCAA Division I women's gymnastics season as members of the Big Ten Conference in their 46th season of collegiate competition. The Wolverines were led by head coach Bev Plocki in her thirty-second season, and played their home meets at the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The 2022 Oklahoma Sooners softball team was an American college softball team that represented the University of Oklahoma during the 2022 NCAA Division I softball season. The Sooners were led by Patty Gasso in her twenty-eighth season, and played their home games at OU Softball Complex. They competed in the Big 12 Conference, where they finished the season with a 59–3 record, including 17–1 in conference play.

The 2022 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships was held from April 14–16, 2022 at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The semifinals and the national championship were televised on ESPN2 and ABC, respectively.
