The 2023 BNL season was the 10th season of the Basketball National League (BNL), the top-flight basketball league in South Africa. The season began on 6 May 2023 and ended with the championship game on 30 July 2023. All fixtures were played in the Mandeville Indoor Hall in Johannesburg. [1]
The league consisted of 12 teams, which were divided in two groups of six teams each. The Florsheim Ngwenya-led Cape Town Tigers made their BNL debut and won their first-ever league championship. [2] As national champions, the Tigers qualified for the 2024 BAL qualification.

The Basketball National League (BNL) is the pre-eminent male professional basketball league in South Africa. The league was founded in 2013, however, before the Premier Basketball League had been running as the country's premier basketball league.
Benjamin Chukwukelo Uzoh is a Nigerian-American former basketball player. He played in international competitions for Nigeria. Standing at 6 ft 3 in (1.91 m) and playing at the point guard, Uzoh played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the New Jersey Nets and Toronto Raptors. He also played for several teams across North America, Europe, South America and Africa.
The 1981–82 Yugoslav First Basketball League season was the 38th season of the Yugoslav First Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in SFR Yugoslavia. The season ended with Cibona winning the league championship by beating Partizan two games to none in the playoffs final best-of-three series.

The qualification tournaments for the 2022 BAL season, also known as the Road to BAL 2022, were the qualification rounds for the second season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The tournaments began on 19 October 2021 and ended 16 December 2021. Similar to the first season, the competition consisted out of two stages: the first round and the elite 16. Six teams advanced to the group phase of the BAL.

Soweto Panthers is a South African basketball club based in Soweto in Johannesburg. The team plays in the Basketball National League (BNL) and WBNL. The team was founded in 1986, the Men's won the BNL championship in 2018. The Women's team was formed in 2020 leading to the launch of the WBNL in 2021
The 2023 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 3, was the third season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 11 March 2023 and ended on 27 May 2023. The playoffs were played in the BK Arena in Kigali, which hosted the final stage for a third season in a row. The regular season was played in Dakar, Senega and Cairo, Egypt, both venues hosted a conference for a second year in a row.

Mlungisi Florsheim "Flosh" Ngwenya is a South African professional basketball coach. He is the current head coach of the Cape Town Tigers of the Basketball National League (BNL) and of the South Africa men's national team. He is the most successful coach in South African basketball history, with five national titles.
Nkosinathi Sibanyoni is a South African professional basketball player for the Cape Town Tigers of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and Basketball National League (BNL). Standing at 2.08 m, he plays as center and has also played for the South Africa national team. Sibanyoni has been a key part of the Tigers in their BAL seasons and holds the record for most rebounds in a BAL game. He is nicknamed "Nahi".
