The qualification for the 2023 BAL season , also known as Road to BAL 2023, was the 3rd edition of the qualifying tournaments for the Basketball Africa League. The tournaments were organised by FIBA Africa and are held from 10 October to 27 November 2022. [1] The format was similar to the previous two seasons, with a group phase and an elite 16 being held.
On 21 September 2021, FIBA Africa announced the teams in the qualifying tournaments as well as the six countries that would qualify directly. [1]

Nine teams were drawn in a group for the group phase, but withdrew prior to the start of the games.

The group was initially set to feature six teams, including the champions from Cape Verde and the Reformers of Prisons from Ghana. The Reformers of Prisons withdrew, leaving four teams in the group. The games of Group A are held in Niamey, Niger, and are played from 18 October to 23 October.

Although initially planned to take place on 25–30 October, the games were rescheduled to 28–30 October. Hawassa City from Ethiopia withdrew. [5]
The games of Group C were schedules to be hosted in Kampala, Uganda, but were pulled from the country because of the 2022 Uganda Ebola outbreak. [4] Dar es Salaam in Tanzania was announced as the new venue.

Forces Armées et Police Basketball, commonly known as simply FAP or FAP Yaoundé, is a basketball team based in Yaoundé, Cameroon. It is the basketball team of the Cameroonian armed forces and police. The team previously played in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and domestically plays the Elite Messieurs. FAP has won the national championship three times, the Cameroon Cup once, and the Central Region League Championship three times.
Robert Gilchrist is a professional basketball player currently playing for Elan Coton of the Road to BAL. Gilchrist was born in London, England and played his college career in the United States.
City Oilers is a basketball club based in Lugogo, Kampala, Uganda. The team competes in the Ugandan National Basketball League (NBL), where it has won nine championships, the most in league history. The Oilers currently also play in the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
