The Zambia Basketball League is the first tier basketball league of Zambia. The league currently consists of 10 teams. [1] It is organised by the Zambia Basketball Association (ZBA). In the past, the league was sponsored by Sprite and was named the Sprite ZBA.

Contents

The champions of the league are able to play in the qualifying rounds of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Matero Magic is the most successful team in league history with eleven national championships.

The qualification for the 2023 BAL season, also known as Road to BAL 2023, was the 3rd edition of the qualifying tournaments for the Basketball Africa League. The tournaments were organised by FIBA Africa and are held from 10 October to 27 November 2022. The format was similar to the previous two seasons, with a group phase and an elite 16 being held.

The Munali Suns are a Zambian basketball team based in Munali, a suburb of Lusaka. Founded in 2014, they play in the Zambia Basketball League and have won their first championship in the 2022–23 season following their victory over the Matero Magic. As national champions, the Suns were the third Zambian team to play in the Road to BAL in the 2023 tournaments.
