The 2025 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 5, will be the 5th season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). It will be the first season in which the playoffs of the league will be held outside of Rwanda. [1]

Contents

Petro de Luanda will be the defending champions, having won the previous season. The winners will earn the right to play in the 2025 FIBA Intercontinental Cup.

Qualification

Road to BAL teams

The following teams are eligible to play in the Road to BAL qualifying tournaments, based on their results in domestic leagues and championships. The final team composition is to be confirmed by FIBA. The Road to BAL will run from September to December 2024. [2]

Teams

The defending champions Petro de Luanda were the first team to qualify, as they won the 2023–24 Angolan Basketball League on 12 May 2024 to qualify for a record-extending fifth time. [13] Al Ittihad Alexandria will make its debut, becoming the third Egyptian club to play in the league. [14] ASCVD became the third Senegalese club to qualify following their Nationale 1 title. [15]

The group phase was played in the Dakar Arena in Dakar and the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall in Cairo. The playoffs and finals were played in the BK Arena in Kigali for a second year in a row.

Patrick Yousef Gardner is an American-Egyptian professional basketball player for Petro de Luanda of the Angolan Basketball League and the Basketball Africa League (BAL). He played college basketball for Nassau Community College, Saint Michael's College and Marist.

Clésio Castro is an Angolan professional basketball player for Petro de Luanda and the Angola national team. Standing at 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m), he plays as center and is a product of the Primeiro de Agosto youth academy.
