In the 2023 Bhiwani killings or Killings of Nasir and Junaid, on 16 February 2023, the charred bodies of Nasir (age 25), and Junaid, (age 35), residents of Ghatmika village in Bharatpur district, were discovered inside a burnt vehicle near Loharu in Haryana's Bhiwani district. According to police, they were allegedly kidnapped and subsequently killed by cow vigilantes affiliated with the Bajrang Dal in Haryana. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

Basavaraj Somappa Bommai is an Indian politician and engineer who is currently serving as the Lok Sabha MP of Haveri and previously served as the 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka from 18 July 2021 to 19 May 2023. He formerly served as the Interim Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Legislative Assembly as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and he was former member of the Janata Dal and Janata Dal (United). He was a Member of the Legislative Assembly in the legislature of Karnataka for Shiggaon, from where he has been elected four times since 2008. Between 1998 and 2008, he was a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council from Dharwad local authorities. He served as Minister for Water Resources and major and medium irrigation from 2008 to 2013, Home Affairs, Law and Parliamentary Affairs and Cooperation between 2019 and 2021 minister in charge of Haveri and Udupi districts from 2019 to 2021.

Pradyuman Thakur was a seven-year-old student at Ryan International School, in Gurugram, in the state of Haryana, India. He was found with injuries to his neck outside a washroom at the school on 8 September 2017, and he later succumbed to his wounds. A bus conductor who provided assistance with carrying the injured Pradyuman was initially charged with the murder, and allegedly confessed to police, but was later found to be innocent. Four police officers were later charged with framing him for the murder. Following a transfer of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation, an unnamed sixteen year old student from the same school has since been charged with his murder. The case is still going on, and the trial proceedings have not begun as of December 2021.
Umar Khalid is an Indian student activist, a former research scholar at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), former leader of Democratic Students' Union (DSU) in JNU. He was allegedly involved in the JNU sedition row. Considered a political prisoner, Khalid has been imprisoned in Tihar Jail for alleged involvement in the 2020 Delhi Riots since September 2020 and has consistently been denied bail, even though his court trial is yet to begin. Khalid is also associated with United Against Hate, a campaign founded along with Nadeem Khan in July 2017 in response to a series of lynchings.
Mohammed Nayeemuddin, commonly known as Nayeem, was a naxal leader and alleged criminal. He first gained prominence in 1993 due to his alleged involvement killing of Indian Police Service officer K. S. Vyas. He and his brother played an important role in killing Belli Lalitha in 1999. He was a resident of Bhongir located in Nalgonda district on the border of Hyderabad.

Nikita Tomar, a 20-year-old Indian student, was shot dead by Tausif and his friend Rehman outside her college in the town of Ballabhgarh in Faridabad district, Haryana, on 26 October 2020. The boy who shot her wanted to marry her and allegedly convert to Islam, which she refused to do. The incident was recorded on CCTV, which led to the arrest of two men, both of whom were fellow students. On 23 March 2021, two men were convicted of her murder by a fast-track court and were imprisoned for life.
The 2020 Amshipora murders, or the Amshipora fake encounter, or the Shopian fake encounter, refers to the killing of three Kashmiri laborers, one of whom was a minor, by Indian military personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles in the village of Amshipora, in the district of Shopian, in Jammu and Kashmir, on 18 July 2020. The Indian Army initially claimed that the three victims were foreign terrorists who had been killed in an encounter with security forces after they opened fire on a security team. Preliminary investigations by the Indian Army in a Court of Inquiry, as well as by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, alleged that Army personnel, aided by civilian informants, had staged the encounter and killed three labourers who were working for daily wages in local orchards, allegedly to claim a cash bounty of ₹20 lakh, which is granted by the Indian Army as a reward for killing militants. The Indian Army is currently conducting a court-martial proceeding against Army Captain Bhoopendra Singh of the Rashtriya Rifles, as well as an unnamed non-commissioned officer, while proceedings are ongoing against two civilian informants in local courts in Kashmir.

The 2023 Haryana riots commonly referred to as the Nuh violence were a series of clashes in northern India that originated in the state of Haryana and have subsequently spread to nearby regions. On 31 July 2023, communal violence erupted in the Nuh district of Haryana between Muslims and Hindus during an annual Brajmandal Yatra pilgrimage organised by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). By the evening of the same day, fresh incidents of communal violence were reported from Gurugram and Sohna. As of 3 August 2023, the situation had resulted in at least seven fatalities and over 200 reported injuries.
